For those that are not aware, I work in the retail business of selling LCD/LED and Plasma's.

This year 3D televisions will be released.

I am so excited and can't wait. 8)

I'm more excited about the arrival of the Boxee Box. It looks good enough to relegate my Popcorn Hour to the bedroom.

That's nothing more you can do with that than what these new tv's will do. They will have all those capabilities built into them. That boxee will be a waste of time imo.

You're talking 2 different functions though, boxee is a media streamer, not 3d related. With the 3d sets from what I understand only some programs will support it (sport) at least initially so whats the 2d performance like? I'm also concerned by the issue of eye strain from using 3d glasses for long periods, personally my eyes can't take it.

These new tv's besides having 3d capability are media steamers also, same as boxee.

I dont thing eye strain would be an issue because you would not be watching everything in 3d, just the odd blu-ray or sport event.

From my understanding not everything will be able to be viewed in 3d. The program has to be broadcasted with 3d intentions.

Stay tuned for more details, as I know you will know.

Was in the Sony center today in Beverly hills and they had the new to be released in june 3D television.

WOW, amazing picture, it was just like the the 3D quality you have seen in current 3D cinema releases.

Definately will be getting one when they come out in AUS, only thing is I have to check out the new samsung #D coming out in next month and compare which one is better.

I will let you all know when I have seen it.

Sounds awesome but I think I will wait to buy one when glasses are no longer required.
James Cameron says about two years and they will be gone.
Who am I to argue with him?

The sceptic in me says this is all to circumvent piracy. It's highly likely IMO but who can blame the movie/media companies?

bought the samsung 55" led 3D a few days ago. watched the first world cup game in 3D.
picture quality and 3D was amazing .

tv is also capable of converting 2D into 3D, adds amazing depth to 2D tv or dvd

i'll wait for holographic 3d without glasses

Rather not wait another 3-5 years waiting for that to come out. Btw, I didn't buy this one for the 3d, just wanted a big screen without forking out too much cash.

it would be a nice panel for normal viewing. not convinced about 3d in its current format. nice initial wow factor but given the 30% loss in contrast and the limitation of needing glasses i'll leave it for the early adopters. i jumped early on hd-dvd and dont want to invest in another failed format

and btw there is one movie available (monsters vs aliens) and no local release date for avatar 3d on Blu-Ray

There is also ice age 3 and coraline on blu ray 3d, but only bundled with panasonic 3d plasma.

Not alot of content right now but this site keeps it updated: http://www.3dmovielist.com/3ddvds.html

As far as 3D goes, it does WOW alot of guests in my house but I hardly ever watch it. the only time I do is when a live sporting event is on like the current world cup and the previous nrl state of origin matches.

Picked up the Sammy 55" C8000.

Happy with it though the ability to stream content just isn't there yet. I'm hoping future firmware release will fix that.

So how are people going with the 3D tv's they purchased back then? Still got it, or have sold it for something else?

What are peoples opinions on 'smart' tv's?

I keep an eye on the prices and capabilities of the tv's for when I finally decide to buy one.
Won't need it any bigger than 42". Don't think I would bother with a 3D tv though.

Have had a 32" Sony in the bedroom since April & haven't tried the 3D on it yet!

Love the wireless function's ability to retrieve & play media files from my NAS though.

I've just bought a 55" Samsung smart TV.
Very disappointed with the resolution of standard def TV and my (extensive) DVD collection. Can't stand it. Quality is shithouse.
Looks like it's BlueRay and HD from here on, so going to cost me a lot more than just the expense of a new set. :(
