In this draft though, they need 2392 points to match 3 and 25. Inclusive of the 20% discount.

They currently have 27, 34, 42, 43, 49 and 58. That adds up to 2475 which gets them there. If 58 is left for them to still use, then they're short by about 70 odd points arent they ?

Bloody confusing.....
As far i can guess there pick 58 drops back the value of about 100 points, so to about 67.
i think.

it's a dog's breakfast, I certainly can't get my head around it. Perhaps our expert @mrposhman can assist as he has been doing tirelessly behind the scenes for this phantom draft.

Late in the season, the Cats were repeatedly torched by small forwards.

At pick #52, Geelong takes another Oakleigh Chargers player, mobile defender Blake Leidler.

The likes of Bews and Kolodjashnij lack the agility to go with the genuinely speedy crumbing goalkickers, and this is the gap Leidler will fill.

Leidler has already shown he can match it with highly-rated small forwards such as Dattoli and Hannaford.

Sort of. They essentially "gain" points value through the bid matching of other players between the Ashcroft and the Marshall bids. With Kako and Lombard bid on in that range they essentially gained points without doing anything as their picks moved up a touch.

I did the calcs on this and its a bit tough to follow, you have to do it with each bid.

You are right with what they start with 2475 points.

Ashcroft goes at 3 - for 2234 points less the 20% discount so 1787 points needed.
They use 27, 34, 42 and 43 and get back Pick 54.
So they are left with 49, 54 and 58 after the Ashcroft bid, however thats not quite right, as we have added 1 pick and taken out 4, so 49 becomes 46, 54 is put in there, but 58 has moved in by 2 to 56 as 2 of Brisbane's picks have moved to the back of the draft.

So whilst using up 1787 points for Ashcroft, they should have had 688 points left, but instead have 745 points. So a small gain of 57 points.

Lombard goes at 11 which GC match with 38, 40 and 48 whilst getting 62 back.

What that does to Brisbane's 46, 54 and 56 is, that we add 1 pick and take 3 out before all of them, so they all again move up 2 spots. So now become 44, 52 and 54 and are now worth 828 so a further gain of 83 points.

With Kako being bid on at 13, Essendon match with 29 and 21 and get back 51.

So Brisbanes picks become 43, 52 and 54 so only a marginal movement, but increases their points to 844 a further gain of 16 points, so they have essentially gained 156 points by doing nothing and just having their points slide up a bit.

Once Marshall is big on at 25 with the flat discount after 18, that takes the needed points down to 559, so they can match with 44 and 52 with a small surplus and get 69 back, hence why they retain those later picks.

I think it should be the first pick of the 5th round? @mrposhman would know.

I think the number of picks are set at the start of the draft, ie. how many active list spots all teams have on their main lists, less any overage on their rookie lists. Ie. we have 9 spots on our main list but have 1 too many rookies, so we get 8 picks in the draft. Once every club has that, then any picks that pushed to the back of the draft slide in behind that (or just replace the movement up the order so don't add any value). If there are additonal picks needed (ie. a team trades into next year, then that pick will be added behind all the other picks I think unless it would have come before based on ladder position).

So does "58" still remain in play for them then ?

Well, as long as it's not Essendon that have another pick (just check that), then Cwood select Harry Charleson from the GWV Bungals. The next Dan Houston.

Note: if it is Essendon that are next, I reserve the right to keep Charleson ! :ROFLMAO:
Haha. We came very close to selecting Charleson the pick before this, it was a lineball between him and Dennis.
If we knew that dudingford were into Charlie we would've have snaffled him first.

Some good hbfers here
