Hobbs is the leading pure inside midfielder in the pool who will be a ball-winner from day one and looms as a future captain as well. Hobbs is ultra-reliable: he just gets his hands dirty on all occasions at the stoppages and is adept at feeding the ball out. Clubs saw him also become more attacking with his disposal mid-year when he started to push forward and hit the scoreboard. After an ankle injury early in the year, Hobbs averaged nearly 30 disposals in his five completed NAB League games and is ready to play AFL.

It was Callaghan's run and carry, striking left-foot kicking and poise under pressure that caught the eye of clubs very early in the year while he played for the Sandringham Dragons. And those first impressions have lasted, with the 18-year-old clearly one of the best handful of players in the draft. Callaghan spent the first half of his season as a wingman before more time inside the centre square midfield roles mid-year, and combines his excellent endurance running with classy ball use.

The Western Bulldogs have worked to gather enough points to match an early bid for Darcy, the talented father-son prospect who is the best tall in this year's draft pool. As you'd expect for a player his size, Darcy is strong in the air and flies for his contested grabs. But his trick is that he superbly agile at ground level, too, and is a threat inside-50 not just in marking situations. Darcy is currently nursing a stress reaction in his foot that has seen him in a moonboot.

A starring performance in the SANFL preliminary final locked in Horne-Francis as North Melbourne's No.1 pick, with the brilliant effort leaving no doubt that he was set to be a Kangaroo. Horne-Francis was electric in booting 3.3 from 24 disposals and eight clearances and once again proved his status as a prospect who enjoys the big stage. With a strong dose of physicality, strength, power, footy smarts and downright presence, Horne-Francis is ready for his next test at the top level.

Daicos didn't need a full season to show his talents this year, with the midfielder close to best afield in nearly every game he played. The son of Collingwood legend Peter and brother of Magpies midfielder Josh is a level above: he dominates games not only through weight of possessions but also impact, averaging 36 disposals and two goals at NAB League level. Determined as he is talented, Daicos has been able to step up his preparations for the start of his AFL career since committing to the Magpies on a four-year deal.

I cant stop thinking about ronny fijo jr in black and yellow.

he flows into space like mercury,

he accelarates through the tightest gaps like a champion racehorse,

he puts his teammates on the offensive with every possession,

he runs hard and fast, throttles up and down like a motorbike,

and noone lands a glove on him.

kind of a shane edwards/$hai bolton hybrid.

if not us, i really hope someone picks this kid, cause i just want to watch him play footy.

joel jeffery GC nephew. I cant believe GC missed him in their darwin academy zone
Wow, great highlights reel, where is he expected to go in the draft. Wish we had a late pick to grab him as I dont think we will have any Rookie picks this year.

no idea of his range. @nikolasmia found him.

its love at first sight for me. Theres highlight reels for colts/reserves and league and theyre all the same.

he only plays one way - fast, evasive, and damaging.

No will o wisp either at 180/70.

The draft purists will call me crazy but id punt on him with one of our late 20s picks.

i reckon youre getting NWM and Finn Callahan in one pick

Goater screams of your classic kid who has potential to play midfield but in reality spends his entire AFL career off half back. There are hundreds of examples like this. Our very own Vlastuin falls in this boat.

If you want a midfielder then grab an actual midfielder.
Bont started as a wingman, Fyfe started as a forward, Danger started as a hybrid forward/mid, Merrett started as an outside mid.............sometimes you have to roll the dice on upside because you never know what you might unearth.

Bont actually started as a halfback with the Knights.

I’m off the Sonsie bandwagon I’m afraid. Anyone who does that in a photo can never be a Richmond man. I’m also going to have a long conversation with my sister about her new husband.

haha. Definately a north melbourne or a brisbane type pose
Twomey’s write up was like a bad review of a friend’s restaurant. Just talking about the decor and tableware but not mentioning the food. Why not just leave him out of the top 30?

Played wing at state level and averaged around 14 possessions, definitely an upside selection.
Not so much an upside selection more a late bloomer (similar to Oliver and likes of Amiss, Darcy and Callaghan this year). By the 2nd half of his draft year he was playing midfield and dominating. Also some would argue that Merrett is still an outside mid and Danger always a hybrid mid/forward.

I tend to look at state performances when making guestimates about potential, there's been a few who have led the club down the garden path with form in TAC - Lennon played midfield but was too slow for that role at AFL level. Corey Ellis was seen as inside at TAC level but looked as outside as they come at state level. Clarry was different, he kicked butt in the VFL and won the Morrish for good measure, his body of work was as good as any. Merrett is a rounded mid in every sense of the word, the only reason he slid was many recruiters capped his potential. Danger at his peak was a midfielder averaging 30 touches a match, now he's spending more time forward given his body is failing him.

Got any stats for Fejo @eZyT? I could only find this. He is overaged by 2 years btw.

He played two SANFL seniors games, 13 disposals in each, 1 tackle in each, 96% disposal efficiency.

He played 16 SANFL reserves games, average 18.2 disposals, DE 91%, 5 goals total at 45%, 1.9 tackles, 2.8 inside 50s, 1.1 clearances, 1.1 rebound 50s.

Best of 30 disposals v Sturt, and had 21 in 70-point elimination final loss.

Article on Wests website in January said he was 19 then.
