2017 Membership Tally

Didn't actually think people joined to support the board and admin.

Thought people joined to support the team.

I only joined this year to vote out the board if an EGM occurs (and to keep my reward and recognition).

Love to see anywhere in print where the board and admin claim they are the club Redans.

Didn't the Pegster call it 'her club' at one point?

Sure did.

It's her club, just like its your club and my club, what's the big deal?

That's right Mappa, how many times have we (as in all Tigers supporters) been asked "who do you barrack for" & our reply has been along the lines of " I'm a Richmond supporter, or my club is Richmond/Tigers etc.)

Imo when Peggy said "my club" that was the context she meant. Personally I was happy to hear her say that. It showed she loves the club & was in the job for the right reasons. Not for the "glory" of being an AFL club president, but because she believes that she can contribute to the organisation as a whole.

Some people on this & other forums just don't seem to be able to accept the fact that the people running the club want success just as much as they do.

It also should be remembered that the Board & President DO NOT get paid for what they do.

How many of the people who are so critical of those in charge of the club, are prepared to get off their backside & do something positive to help. Not very many, it's far easier as a keyboard warrior to sit back & criticise.

Some do but they are denied the opportunity through the manipulation of the election process in favour of the dinosaur incumbents. Peggy says she is in favour of fresh blood on the board but does nothing to ensure a fair and proper election.

Do you really think that Peggy O'Neal would have been inducted as one of the first female members (along with an Olympian) of the Carbine Club if she had not been the first AFL club President.
Certainly a high degree of "glory" in that membership and it stems directly from her AFL association.

Yep, off the cuff vernacular comment, and boy did she cop it on here for that.

So yeah, love to see absolutely any evidence that the board/admin of our great club claiming they "are the club".

That's OK, I'll wait.

Her cunning plan was to to become President of the RFC for years so she could get an invite to the Carbine Club? Guess it finally payed off.

So why shouldn't she be offered that opportunity, it's been a "perk of the job" for male AFL Club Presidents for years. But it still doesn't change the fact that she is doing the job because she wants to, because she loves the club.
If some "perks" come her way as a result, I have no qualms about it at all. I think it's not very well understood just how much unpaid time club Presidents put in to the role.

Hawks 72,552 - appear to have slowed more than we have.

Collingwood's numbers are opaque - is there a leader board somewhere?

Membership numbers are for the boards to *smile* about whose the best supported club. Attendances are where clubs see how many of their members are prepared to turn up at the footy.

Top 5 for average home attendances are:

Richmond - 60,920
Essendon - 56,269
Collingwood - 49,353
Adelaide - 46,321
Port Adelaide - 40,537

Gee don't the Hawks dump their team when they suck, they are 13th in the AFL, only marginally above 30k. Last season they were 4th at just over 41k.

Can almost stick a fork in it for the year.

Superb effort by all involved after last years abysmal on field season. Goes to show most put there loyalty to the club first , rather then there self absorbed opinions on how and who should run the club.

Pretty ordinary comment CC, members are well within their rights to question the administrators of the club. I for one didn't drop my membership but I did downgrade it.

I don't think my comments are ordinary Giardiasis , I don't disagree that members should be able to
Voice there opinion against any part of the football club, in fact it should be encouraged, however many on here said we would lose thousands of members, I think quite a few said we'd drop to 50k , my point simply was the Tiger army stayed loyal as always even after such a poor year and without going on about it again , my belief is you stand by the club buy a membership if you can afford it and speak to the right people if you believe something within the club needs change.
