MATCH REPORT
by YinnarTiger
Coming into this match at 7-4 we were expecting a win to make it 8-4 for the first time since 2001.
Then we remembered the false starts we have had since then, and the doubts started. The bulldogs looked good in their last quarter against Collingwood didn't they? Gee I thought I'm starting to sound like Danny from Droop Street, pull yourself together, we smashed them last time, we should do it again.
Ivan found plenty of time to pass to Jack for our first goal a minute after the opening bounce. The bulldogs answered a couple of minutes later through Cooney. The tigers had most of the play for the rest of the quarter but missed shots stopped us getting a big confidence building lead. An 11 point margin at quarter time left us still a little nervous.
With four unanswered goals to four different tigers in the first four minutes of the second quarter, our nervousness settled. It felt like we were going to be on the enjoyable side of a big blowout. But the four unanswered goals became three, and our game had less of a shine about it for the rest of the quarter. The maggots were feeling they weren't being noticed enough, so one of them decided to get involved by awarding a questionable 50m penalty and a goal to the dogs after the siren. 22 points up at the major break, it felt as though we would win but not like the wins we had against West Coast and Adelaide.
The third quarter saw us wear down the doggies. Grigg and Houli continued their outside dominance, Vickery showed he had better than what was seen in the first half, Rance and Chaplin were strong in defence. It was our best quarter for the night and helped seal the game for us. 5 goals to none and 53 points up at the final break.
In the last quarter Jacko opened proceedings with a candidate for goal of the year. Someone on here suggested it was an accident - no way known! I was in the standing room on the Level 1 wing directly in line with Jacko and the goals. He got the hand pass from Vickery, looked inwards and could not find a better option and calmly slotted it through himself. Further goals to Flossy, Jack and the skipper and we were home and hosed halfway through the quarter. Chappy getting assisted off was not a good look but it seems he will be ok.
A 60 point win is good for us no matter how it is played. It was a scrappy sort of win but it was pleasing to see we are not so reliant on a single avenue to goal with 12 goal kickers getting the eighteen goals. Although we each give votes to only three players there'll be a wide distribution of votes for tonight's performance.

Cheers to Yinnar for stepping up this week with a nice summary of last week's victory against the Dogs. It was nice to see the Tigers account for a team that they should beat even though we were sub-par for intensity and finishing for stretches of the match. I think it is a sign of growing maturity and confidence as a side and bodes well. I am not sure how to take the certainty of many commentators that the Tigers are now a shoe-in for finals this year. Perhaps it is the years of disappointment, but I think I will hold off on any celebrations until we are a mathematical certainty, just the same.
In the match against the Dogs, Houli was the clear favourite amongst the PRE crowd. His defensive work and rebound 50 efforts have been a key element of our season and it was on full display against the Dogs. Although we are starting to see some media plaudits this week, his unassuming work this season has seen him build to the top 5 in this award, an appropriate position. The other podium spots this week were taken by Grigg and Conca whom the PRE faithful couldn't split for 2nd and 3rd. Both had outstanding games. Grigg played his best game of the season and managed to impact the scoreboard significantly for the first time this year and Conca continued to show the hard in and under work ethic and ability to move and offload in traffic that suggests he is going to be a key player in Tigers sides of the future.
This week represents another winnable match (it's amazing how they all feel winnable after a few victories) against the Saints. Victory in this match will see us ensconced in the 8 and only half a match out of the top 4! The withdrawal of Fisher and Hayes can only improve our chances.
Carn' the Tiges!
