2013 Election Year Party Policies- Liberal

No chance based on current polls.

Tony himself is not doing that well in the preferred PM poll - this could turn into the Coalitions Achilles heel. A couple of gaffs from him and the voters see him as not a man to lead the country and God only knows the result.

He talks of trust - I find it much harder to trust him than say Hockey or Turnbull. Find it real hard to trust Gillard and Swan.

Do we really get the Politicians we deserve? If so, we as a nation are not that worthy!

Yeah, the trust line is odd. Queue ALP ads showing tony running for the door, head bobbing when being interviewed, declaring that any statements he makes in the heat of the battle shouldn't be believed.

Oh, and budgie smugglers.

Just a question to someone who may know.

Now that an election has been called, does this mean that it now locks in both leaders, Gillard & Abbott, of their respective parties until after the election?

My recollection is that the Labour Party changed leaders from Hayden to Hawke an hour before Fraser called the 1983 election; and if Fraser had gone to the GG two hours earlier, the Labour could not have changed leaders. That's my recollection.

Is this correct?

On a side note, with the election slated for september 14 and the television stations all wanting to outdo each other with their sat night election coverage, what happens to the AFL's finals match for that date, will they have to revert back to the traditional satdy arvo timeslot, not that it will worry us as Richmond will be already in the prelim enjoying a week off.

Channel 7 will smash it in ratings that night with the footy.

As election coverage starts around 6.00pm, they'll have the semi-final set as a day match for sure.

Imagine if the Bulldogs made the SF...... ;D

Yep. Ratings boost for Ch 7.

looking foward to all the conservative papers to ramp up the vitirol.

will be interesting to see how they cost their policies, when revenue is declining.

you cant promise low taxes and a spendathon with declining government revenue.

Mr Rabbit needs to show me more progressive thinking than the same old same old.

I'm surprised nobody else seemed to share my queries on that. From a quick glance it seemed to rely on hope and good luck that some of the proposed initiatives actually pay off. I've had a bit of a read about it and it seems costing for the policies will be expected after the budget in May.

It is only preliminary. Politically the Libs would be crazy to reveal all their policies 9 months out from an election. That;s exactly what the ALP want them to do.

Correct Phantom in so far as it makes it politically difficult to swap leaders. But it can be done if that Party seeks oblivion.
As soon as I heard Gillard had set a poll date, my immediate thought was "she's making sure there can be no ALP move against her leadership in 2013".
But I'm a natural cynic !

It works both ways Poppa. Abbott is on the nose with the electorate. Maybe Labor are also trying to lock him in as opposition leader?

LMAO at Phoney taking about trust. :hihi

Abbott talking about trust.
Pyne talking about fixing question time.
Hockey talking about ending the culture of entitlement.

its hard to know what to take seriously.

Firstly, there is no need to release costings for policies yet as the Libs don't know the exact state of the economy and how bad it is.

Also, they don't want to be releasing good ideas and have Gillard copy them ala what Rudd did to Howard in 2007.

Abbott said yesterday anyways that he will release more costings for his policies between May and September so stay tuned :)

Anyone else notice the way the document header is formatted?

Hope
Reward

A slip of the eye easily sees 'Howard' in there. Not an accident I suspect.

Hope Reward Opportunity

If you say it slowly backwards it kind of says 'Tony U Troppo Drawer epoH' If you take it one step further, epoH has got to be an acronym for Evil Person on Heroin, which would explain the lean torso that Miranda finds so compelling. I think Tonys daughter should hold a press conference and cry about her dads bad habit. I think this slogan is a cry for help.

So let me get this right.. Abbott doesn't want to make any promises pre election because he doesn't want to be seen to lie to the public?
Sounds like a total cop out on not detailing policy.

'We'll have to make some tough decisions' once we get into office..

Give me a spell!! :spin :spin :spin :spin :spin

Why should his policies come out right now.

I agree that all thetime he should be telling us what needs to be done and what they will be concentrating on, but I disagree they have to announce how they are going to do it, all the time.

Closer to the election thats when they need to do that, not yet.

I think that is fair enough in a way, I think this idea that oppositions should throw out fully formed policies without the benefit of public service assistance to develop and cost them is a bit unrealistic.

I suppose it would be nice for voters to know beforehand if they are the ones that will be on the receiving end of the tough decisions though.

Yep agree.
