With all the coaching shenanigans going on we have a unique situation in 2012.

As of today (and things may change by the time I finish posting this), 4 afl clubs are looking for a new coach, 2 clubs will have new coaches (freo and colonwood) and 2 clubs will have less than 2 years experience in the afl.

That makes 8 clubs with new/changed coaches.

With the exception of colonwood and maybe freo, that means 8 clubs will be in a rebuilding phase with GWS and GCS also being in that category.
With Port Adelaide and Brisbane also struggling that makes 10 clubs who probably won't be in finals contention.

As one of the more "settled" clubs ( hahaha), here is the RFC's golden opportunity to make the finals and finally eradicate 27 years of crap that has plagued all of us into sheer frustration.

In line with the 3-0-75 plan, next year must be finals...........no more excuses!!!!!!!!!!

Don't know where u get 10 from? Collingwood won't rebuild. Neither will Freo or the Dees.

1. Adelaide, 2. Doggies, 3. Saints, 4. GC, 5. GWS, 6. PA, 7. Brisbane

Finals in 2012 would be nice but at the end of the day (read: decade) I don't care if we make the finals next year if it means we are straight back out again as soon as some of those rebuilding or new clubs get their act together again.

I want sustained success and flags. If that is still two or three years away then so be it as long as we continue to improve next year.

IMO 2012 is another year of continuing the current change of culture.

New coaches, new game plans, delistings....these all take time to deal with.

Freo and Melb will take time to adjust, make it 9 out of 18.

I'd like to see who we gain in trade period because as it stands now we wont make finals next year either. We'd need to get some very big fish in trade period to make finals next year. Around 12th for me next year if things pan out with no special things happening in draft season.

Although they are a chance to win a premiership this year Geelong may start the rebuild next year with the potential mass retirements at the end of the year. Not that they will necessarily drop out of the eight but they will be less competitive.

I'm not expecting the club to make finals next year. I'd rather build to it over the next few years and ensure that when they do make the 8 they stay there, not just make the one token experience for the decade and fall out again the following year.

Agree they will very hard pressed to finish top 4 next year.

All the top six from 2010 have changed coaches, or will have when Collingwood finishes up.

For me, 2010 was Year Zero. I've drawn a line between that, and what went before. Hardwick and the admin have made a few mistakes, but they've been secondary to the direction we're heading in.

My feelings are similar. I don't expect them to be perfect, I just expect them to be stable, and to set the goal then do everything in mind of that goal.

The ruck is the key for a chance for finals next year - so many times we were ineffectual out of the centre which put massive pressure on the defense. Get that right and we are a chance.

Hard work ahead.

No one should be under any illusion. What Dimma and the boys have achieved so far is probably the easiest bit of winning a flag.

It now requires total commitment, total work ethic, and an undeniable desire to succeed.

It may be the easiest Streak but it also should not be underestimated . How many of us can honestly say that when we were 0-9 in the 2010 season, just 16 months ago , that we would be having conversations about potentially making finals in 2012 ?

Its a long ladder we have to climb and you rightly say that each step we take is harder than the last , but those next steps could not even be contemplated without the gains this group has achieved so far .

I was thinking of posting something similar to this the other night when all the Freo/St Kilda stuff happened...

Amazing that Richmond for a change is one of the STABLE clubs...

As you said a bunch of clubs have new coaches.. Melb and Bulldogs don't even have coaches at the moment.. St Kilda's just walked out, Freo just threw theirs out. Carlton even though they are a hair away from a grand final appearance are threatening to sack their coach. Malthouse has yet to even say a good word about the guy who's followed him around for the last 2 years and will be taking his place next season...

But past the coaching stuff which is just chaos, you have all these other clubs surrounded in back ally talks about players moving on and others not signing....

As well as having a very stable coaching panel at the moment with barely a mention of anyone, fans or otherwise, wanting him out,,,, we appear to have an entire team of players fully committed to our club... In this age right now, if a player wasn't fully happy where he is, he could put his hand up and would be out pretty damn quick.. But allllll of our good and mid tier guys seem to be showing an unflinching support for what's going on at Tigerland at the moment...

If off field stuff really can have a big impact on field, then i'm am very thankful Richmond is as settled as i've seen it in a long time....!

:clap :clap :clap :clap

Good management.. Good leaders at the top... That's what it takes... sh!t rolls down the hill and you put one bad guy at the top, everything ends up in disarray.. Clearly our top leaders are building an incredibly good culture that people just want to stay apart of, and everyone there has the chance in some way to contribute to Richmond rising to the top again!!!!

Loving it!

I wouldn't disagree.

We have to stay focussed, and we have to stick to the plan.

Firstly let me say I think the cultural Change has already well and truly started. But also think the chaos that has occurred with the coaching merry go round may have a significant effect on the AFL landscape in that it might tighten up the comp some what and certain teams expectations might now be very different with new coaches in place.

With, what I expect to be our natural improvement in our list and hopefully some smart trading might see us make up some unexpected ground next years on some of those teams with new coaches who will be finding their way and implementing new game plans etc, as well as some other teams that will now possibly start looking at rebuilding such as St.kilda and possibly Geelong etc.

Next year could now be very interesting.

As someone said earlier our pursuit of a ruck man during the off season will now become even more critical to our progress next year.

Great post Diz, it's a great relief to be stable for once, and a real endorsement of our club's management that we seem to have left those days behind.
