From my perspective. Carlton and ourselves got the cream with the first two picks.

Essendon did well and went tall so it might be a while till their picks click, but the signs are good.

Kangaroos are playing a few from that draft.

Adelaide found some really good players and Sydney got a good one late with Bird.

West Coast did not go as well as advertised.

Melbourne did well but what happened to Maric?

For us Putt is gone but was a late selection. While Rance doesn't seem to have the tools.

The early 1-4 picks are just so valuble. Disappointed we won't being getting Number one or two even if we finish last this year.

Pick 19 - Callan Ward or Jordan McMahon?

We would have picked Scott Selwood 100% fact. Does anyone know how Selwood is going?

Would sure make the McMahon trade easier to swallow if he turned out a dud anyway.

this highlights how much worse off were going to be with pick no 4, which really is pick no 10 to 11 as best 17 year olds taken out already

These would be my top 3 players from that draft (ATM)

1. Carlton - Matthew Kreuzer (Northern Knights)
2. Richmond - Trent Cotchin (Northern Knights)
12. Hawthorn - Cyril Rioli (St Marys)

Funny, I got the opposite impression: even deeper into the draft, there is a heap of gold to be had.

So far, Cyril Rioli is the best pick from the draft, and he was taken at 12.

I would then say Kreuzer, Rhys Palmer, Patrick Dangerfield or Jack Grimes are the next best performed, and they were taken at 1, 7, 10 and 14 respectively.

After that, there's daylight (as much as I like Cotchin, he hasn't done very much yet).

In fact, I would say that 15 of the 20 players are already within the range of very promising to stars.

I'd say Cotchin's game last week is as good as anything the other fellas have done.

Agreed. But it's also the best game he's had. Cyril Rioli has been much more consistent so far. Time will tell whether or not Cotchin will be consistent at the highest level. But as for rating the draft so far, I'd certainly have Rioli at 1 and Kruzer at 2. Cotchin is no where near their level yet.

At that age it's all about exposed talent, not career performance IMO. I'd take Cotchin at 1 if the draft was tomorrow.

Agreed, I think in the long term Cotchin will be the best player from the 2007 draft. I was just saying that if you rated them on performance so far, he's not there yet.

Tone was speaking in terms of who was the best pick from that draft which is what I'm disagreeing with.

If you can't see what Cotchin is capable of now, then you shouldn't be making opinions about drafts. Cotchin will end up much more consistent and valuable than most of the players in that draft. Only injury has prevented that.

For me the best performed of that draft so far has been Jack Grimes. Punching his weight in a struggling team since recruited adds to the performance.

Sorry, perhaps I'm not making my opinion clear.

I think Cotchin will be the best player from that draft. If the draft was some how repeated now, I would take Cotchin at 1.
However, so far, Rioli has done more, and I think deserves to be rated the best from that draft at the moment.
