2005 Player of the year

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

3 votes - Richo - the reason that we won the game.

2 votes - Friendly - the reason that we didn't lose the game.

1 vote - Hyde - the reason that we were competitive all game.

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

3 Richardson
2 Hyde
1 Tucky

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

RICHO [ nobody works harder clearly bleeds for that jumper and am certain he is hardcore prender]
HYDE [you will be heavily tagged from here on you budding star you]
GAS [Where the hell have you been for the last 2 years?]

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

3- Richo, the marking forward that was the difference.

2- Coughlan, was thinking b4 the game started how will negate this bloke. Cogs was the answer & stepped up with high teens possie count & a cool as a cucumber boal in the last quarter at a crucial period.

1- Gas, started to show confidence, in that, he knew where both his man & the ball were. Steadily getting back to where he was pre-knee.

Newman very stiff, along with Tuck & Hyde (Harts was on line for votes)

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

3 Richo - was just awesome and continued his onslaught against the Dogs
2 Hyde - leading possession winner for us and never went quiet
1 Gaspar - Did very well in the backline and looks like he is getting back to his best

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

3 - RICHO

1 - TUCK - love this guy's work ethic. Few could do with taking notes.

Rosy and Tiggytam,

I think there's a flaw in the way we assign players votes. When we win more posters would be inclined to vote thus a player like a Brown who was best on ground might get say 180 votes. Whereas when we lose and get thumped people would be less inclined to log onto PRE let alone vote, and a player like a Cogs who busted his backside and was clearly our best player might struggle to get 100 votes.

I think a better way would be to give points to say the top 8 vote getters each round - ie the first place getter with the most votes gets 10 points, 2nd gets 8, 3rd 6, 4th 5, 5th 4, 6th 3, 7th 2 and 8th 1. This would balance the votes when we win and lose.

Seeing one person gave Browny 2 votes then posted a few days later that he'd played a shocker, and another poster gave him 3 votes despite not hearing the game and only watching the last quarter I reckon he'd get votes if he didn't even play. Dunc probably got a few bonus votes in his day too. ;D

As to your point about the voting system it might well give a fairer representation but it's also a lot of extra work.

Would you be willing to take over the tallying the player of the year votes and posting results?

Tiggy kindly offered to do the voting for us, but she's already doing the tropical tipping, and I don't want to add to her workload.

Our voting has always been done by this 3-2-1 method and has been pretty spot on with the official top 5 or so results so I personally don't see any great need to change things.  Last year we voted Joel the winner and I think had all of the other place getters so the system, and our supreme judgement, proved accurate.

Of course other opinions are welcome. :hearton

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

i wasnt happy about joel getting al those votes, tho he did play well against sydney in the final round

who gives a smile anyways

as long as we win

Re: Player of the Year - Round 3 vs Western Bulldogs

I know what I am doing with the 3-2-1 system ;D

But I don't mind if Harry wants to do the votes and use the other system if that is what everyone prefers.

I will leave the decision up to Rosebud.
