Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

Hang on, the guy has never tested positive, never been formally charged with anything. What has he officially done wrong?
Wouldn't it be their TV partner channel 7, who is constantly bringing the game into disrepute?
Alot of AFL names in recent years have been linked to seedy characters, yet have not 'brought the game into disrepute'. Didak, Gardiner, Zantuck.... the list goes on.

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

There is plenty on incidents that bring the game into disrepute.

Kerr, Schulz, Voss, Gherig, Didak, Gardiner, Aka, the list goes on and on.

This isnt right.

I do hope Benny has the option to take legal action against the AFL. Someone needs to stand up to Adolf.

But Cousins has done it many times not just once or even twice.

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

he may have done it 'many times' but actual evidence is pretty hard to find. What action has the AFL actually taken prior to this event?

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

Has to show up for a hearing with the A.F.L in three weeks. Dont worry about the rehab ben the meeting is more important than your health. The AFL are a joke they might as well Scrap the three strikes policy it only applies to the drug users who aren't in the media spotlight.

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

Apparently hearing set for Nov 19, can appear in person or via video link or by a representative. I would really like to know what is actually bringing the game into disrepute, he has a charge of failing to submit to a drug(driving?) test. I thought he was in the back seat between 2 women?
Geez makes you wonder. How many other transgressors have got away...Fev,Didak,Gardiner,etc,etc channel 7,coaches,draft managers, recruiters, talent(less) scouts, captains, directors, ceos. Get all of them NOW they've got away with it for too long, make it like the old witch hunts and heretics trials, anyone can accuse anyone, no evidence required, no guilt/offence proven,....just a name.. then ship em off to Afghanistan to repent and work their sins and misdeeds off helping others for a mandatory 10 year stint.
Go on I said GET

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

scapegoat for AFL to make example of....what about Fev and Didak....this is a JOKE !

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

If Cousins can be charged for BTGID so can the RFC

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

Well done to the AFL for doing this. The West Coast let Cousins do what he liked & finally he is being held accountable.

They should lose their 1st 2 picks in the nd.

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

Can the AFL be charged for brining the game into disrepute through the priority pick system?

Ken oath they should be. The WC board is morally bankrupt. How those who have been there for past 3-5 years can still justify their positions is a disgrace.

Re: Cousins charged by AFL bringing game into disrepute

I agree with Men in Black 64. Cousins has been a repeat offender, who has had more lives than a cat. He has been warned, contract restrictions and clauses placed upon him, but continues to draw attention to himself.

He has no one to blame but himself.

Does anyone know if the AFL has a players code of conduct in line with most clubs. Suggest this would form the basis of any such charge so am assuming they have one.

Forget this crap about evidence people keep talking about. An AFL hearing is not bound by the same rules as a court hearing so evidence in the form of criminal charges or being found guilty beyond reasonable doubt is not the criteria applied for such a charge.

His list of misdemeanours go on and on. Because he has won a Brownlow or is a great talent is irrelevant if he can't get his *smile* together.

Forget the evidence the police had in his recent dealings, but I am lead to believe they certainly had a lot more information than has been revealed in the media. Timing may have been off, but this happens heaps in there line of work.

Has Chopper Read been convicted of every crime he committed. I don't think so.

HOWEVER having said all that, people are quite correct in saying that if the AFL do adopt this approach in Bens case they will be forcing their own hand in many ways in respect to other players as once they go down this path they will be under serious pressure to follow the precedent when others muck up.

The only saving grace with guys like Didak, Schulz, Krak and co is that they are first offender, however what do they do if Fevola mucks up yet again. They would almost have to follow the precedent if they persist in persuing cousins. In Didaks case though Hudson still has to face criminal charges in which Didak will be a witness so the AFL might not have heard the last of this one yet either. It will be interesting to see what comes out when the matter goes to Court.

Even if he was charged I think the AFL would still find it difficult to prove such a charge. They them self have almost been complicit in that both they and the Eagles have failed to act at any point until now despite Cousins' behaviour being brought to their attention several times including incidents where he was previouly investigated by Police.

The matters they may seek to rely on in this instance occured in the off season in a period where players allegedly cannot be tested under the AFL Policy so some clever legal eagle might have a pretty good argument that his concuct at this time cannot and should be associated with the game as he was allegedly officially on leave from the Weagles and therefor the AFL I would imagine.

The question that really beggars is do the AFL want to open Pandora's box because that is what this will do IMHO. Such a matter would not ge good for the AFL, the West Coast Eagles or Ben himself.
