Richmond v Freo Punt Rd Round 3

Fair enough, all I do is look if players keep chasing, harassing and she literally stops but guess the heat took it out of her.

I think I'm just pissed off that the umpires have killed a good contest. I cant watch anymore it's a debacle and i mean the umpiring.

Agree the umpires have killed what looked like a good and close game. They've been better than us, but the umpires have just ensured that any chance we had was completely snuffed out.

Admittedly the sample pool is not big, but this would be the most physical AFLW match I've watched.

I like watching the girls but can’t stand the frustrating umpiring and commentating so had to walk away…..may end up doing similar with the mens if it is the same standard.

We did ok going forward. 47 points from around 20 inside 50's is good efficiency.

Smacked in clearances, need someone else to step up when they reduce Contis influence in the middle. Umpires certainly widened the margin from where it should have been.

We couldn't seem to get even in the middle and Freo were very good at clearances. Plus, we couldn't stop their crumbing goals. We are certainly a lot closer to the decent teams but were still a few steps behind. Improvement will require game experience I reckon. The weighting of passes was a bit off, probably spot on at training but not enough experience under pressure. Get more games into the women and they will improve. Bad to see Cordner go down, suspected ACL apparently. That will cost as as our defence needs improving. With McKenzie out we are much weaker in the middle, with Conti and McKenzie there we have 2 players the opposition need to mind.

As for the umpiring, what can you say? It started with a completely ridiculous play on call after a Richmond player marked the ball and was going back to consider her options, which led to Freo's first goal and went from there. the umpiring was putrid.

It seems the umpires are warming into the season: Richmond -5 frees in Round 1 when we dominated, Richmond -2 frees in Round 2 when we were competitive for most of the game but really lost it in the 3rd, and then we get to this week, Richmond -13 frees. They're working well into the season. You never know, one day we might get the same number of frees as our opponents, umpires might adjudicate consistently . . . and pigs might fly.

Richmond be warned.

I think we are more likely to see Piges evolve to have wings than we have of us being umpired the same as the opposition. The difference in adjudication of HTB and the frees paid in each F50 were crazy. We had a number of our players go into tussles (I remember both Brennan and Bernardi) low for the ball, and come out rubbing their faces. All we seemed to have to do was breathe in their direction and they'd get a free.

You are right in the midfield, at the moment we rely heavily on Conti, when they have strong midfields (like melbourne last week and Freo this), Conti can still have a good game, but numbers eventually get on top. We have the makings of a good midfield, Conti is superb, Hosking is good but doesn't always get enough of the pill, McKenzie is potentially the best player in the comp, Seymour is getting better and better IMO both her ruck work but also her follow up work around the ball and when she drops back to help in defence. Players like Brancatisano have improved a lot, but we need a little bit more quality in there in general. Potentially another strong forward to support Brennan and Wakefield may allow Brennan to play more through the middle.

You could see how important Cordner was to our defence when she went off. I think she is massive for our organisation down there (similar to Grimes) and will be a massive loss.

Freo's ferocious tackling & pressure was the difference. We had none of the smooth handball chains we've had in recent weeks.
Cordner was a big loss & so was Lavey.
TBH we looked sluggish & were ultimately outclassed by a better team.

Mitchell for Freo is a bit of a gun.

We still lack class. We make a lot of things look harder compared to the the better teams. Only to be expected given our late entry, in a shallow talent pool which will obviously get better as the womens game and the league grows.

Some good signs but still a ways off it for now. Patience will be required.

More importantly, were the beer supplies sufficient?
