I'm not a great follower of the game, but I would be interested to know what the posters on here think the answer to this question is, based on sheer weight of talent of the players.

I always assumed it was either the La Liga or Serie A, but I reckon over the last 12 months I have seen more people talking about the Bundesliga. And I am not sure how the Premier League or possibly any of the South American leagues might stack up against them.

I was thinking of running this as a poll, but I was hoping people might indicate what their reasoning is.

Good question. From my knowledge, most good players still end up in the three major leagues. Spain, which has two powerful teams, Italy which has three or four powerful teams and the EPL which has three or four powerful teams. Most other leagues are breeding grounds. This of course is subjective as it's based on my opinion...In saying that, the standard of leagues such as the Bundesliga have improved considerably.

I think the point is what league can retain it's own players in it's own country by being able to pay the big bucks, instead of losing them to better paying countries leagues...

La Liga, well at least 2 of the teams, are dripping with talent. Serie A is my preferred league.

The Premier League would be the second tier the spanish and italian leagues. Bundesleague is boring to watch.

Actually, despite a lack of big names, I always find myself enjoying Dutch league matches.

It comes down to a matter of opinion though the two most common answers will be the PL and La Liga.

When I was growing up and getting into football in the early 90's Seria A was THE league. You had Maradonna playing for Napoli, AC had the famous Dutch trio of Van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit, Inter had the german skipper Matthaus at inter etc. La Liga was a close second and of course Barca and Real Madrid always had great players. I started following Barca as my favourite player (a defender) Ronald Koeman played there and they had other stars like Romario and Stoichkov. The English league was still mostly made up of english players and was not anywhere near the level of the others. Of course the PL changed dramatically throughout the 90's as elite talent started going there. I started following the Gunners at that stage partly because they had Bergkamp and Overmars playing there (always had a spot for Dutch players in those days).

Right now you would have to say the best league is the PL or La Liga. It's such a shame that ESPN are no longer showing the spanish league and that One HD dont show Seria A or the Bundesliga.

Cheers, yeah I had it for a while when Euro was on but I ended up cancelling. Will definetely re-visit it later on but bit busy at the moment so get full value out of it I think.

would be great to see more of the big european leagues on fox sports (i'll never fork out $$$ for setanta). fox sports showed 2 el classico's live recently... hopefully its a step in the right direction.

yeah it was good to see, maybe they are realising that showing the FA cup does not adequately replace showing La Liga

Setanta is only $15 per month or something more (hopefully they'll go HD soon!), so its not a bank-breaker and you get world cup qualifiers, and many leagues from around Europe, South America, and Asia.

Hopefully FoxSports will just stop with the "red button" stuff and just put on extra FoxSports channels with maybe a station dedicated purely to the round-ball game (similar to the FoxFooty station).

One thing I do miss this season a bit is "Fox Sports FC" on a Tuesday night....like an On The Couch version for soccer.

i noticed foxtel now have 'fox sports plus' which i believe doubles as the pay per view channel. i was flicking around the channels last sunday and they had 3 different sports on at once with the red button option.

i too miss fox sports fc.

I'm a Ligue 1 fan myself but if you like boring defensive football than it probably isn't for you, although with PSG becoming moneybags with a Shiek owner then it will be interesting to see how the rest of the league reacts.

One show i enjoy watching on foxsports on a sunday night is ' soccer AM ' out of England. They have some supporters of a club from any division come on and act as a cheersquad, they have guest's, it's lighthearted not so serious like the AFL shows and i like the end segment out in the car park where they get the guest's to kick soccer balls at the target.

It's all in the eye of the beholder, if you are a fan of one of the English sides you would say the EPL if you are a fan of a Spanish side you would say La Liga. I do think that it's between La Liga and the EPL for the best league in the world - you just have to have a look at the recent Champions League winners and many have come from those two leagues. Serie A has fallen behind those two leagues slightly but still produces great players and great teams. So for mine its La Liga, EPL, Serie A as the best ranked leagues followed by Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Eredivisie in the second tier. The rest of the Euro Leagues would have between 2 and 4 good teams and a whole bunch of average teams.
