Just thought I would ask this question, but basically I would much rather finish 14th to 16th with a priorty pick, than just miss out on the finals & end up 9th again.
Interested to see what other people think.

Get in the queue Tigers.
Rumour has it there are 5 teams laying down this year to get priority drafts. We're just one. Yes you may be abhored, yes you may deny it. But the fact is that the clubs have now learnt how to manipulate the draft. That's why it's all going to change at the end of the year, unless the AFL wake up beforehand.

All we have to do is look what Stkilda have done over the last few years. What do we get by ending up 9th nothing other then pain as we missed the finals again. 16th as much as i would hate to see would be the better way to go, as then we can get young good kids which we really need at the moment.

Given the choice of where I'd rather Richmond finished, I'd have to say FIRST.

Obiviously I would much rather finish in the finals (anywhere) then 16th or 9th. But in our current situation I just thought it would be interesting to see what people would prefer if we missed out on the finals.

I understand the logic behind this thread, but call me old-fashioned - I can't stand the thought of losing ANY game, let alone finishing 16th.

Unrealistic, I know, but the more games we win the happier I am.

Dont forget we are only 1 win outside the 8. Win this weekend and we are even with the swans and I would say a very good chance to make the 8......

:) GO Tigers!!!!

If we were crap enough to get priority picks on our merits I'd happily accept them and hope we use them wisely.

There is no way I'd condone tanking games though. The team should go out there and give their best every single game.

It would be an absolute disgrace and the damage imeasurable to bring the kids through in a culture where winning wasn't the prime objective.

Give it your all Tiges and let the ladder position take care of itself.

Granted we cannot condone tanking of games.
But its reality check time and the current footy climate is such that our footy culture that we have grown up with is changing each day.

We talk about loyalty by and to players and we constantly see the opposite and mostly towards players by clubs.
It use to be like that but now footy is a business and if you are not going well the business is to survive until you are going well, where you replenish the cophers in readiness for when you again not going well.

The draft sysytem was introduced to make the game fair back then, and we are always talking about how unfair the comp is in regards to the interstate clubs.

The AFL does not care, purely because it has to be like this until the non footy states are footy mad. What is happening at the Lions is exactly what they want.
Once this era is over, those supporters will be caught in the web that we find ourselves in, the one where it takes about 5 years after before you realise that you are not as good as you used to be, and the next 10 to 15 complaining and arguing why, byt which time the side starts to rise and the whole cycle is again played out.

So i understand it isnt good to lie down and tank games purely on the self esteem subject, but the rules are the rules , and you dont exploit them when you can then you will miss the bus and spend another 10 years seeking answers as to failures.

Just ask the then North Melbourne, when the 10 year rule came in and they swooped, and flags started to fly for the first time in their history. Big money men behind them, and all of a sudden rule is set and who is the only club to benefit, the Roos.

It is all well and good to say that we will lose games to get draft picks, but unfortunately I believe we are losing cos the players playing arent as as good as the ones they are playing against. My reasoning, why would as a player you go out to lose in the hope of draft picks when these draft picks will replace yourself on the list due to your poor performances, or lessen the value of your next contract. If it is a message from the coach to lose (for draft picks) I think the players would have revolted by now & said the coach wants us lose, no player at an elite level would go out with an agenda to lose for the sake of the future. I also believe is not the case because he wont be coaching the next batch of draftees. I think you get my point!! For the record, my choice would be 15th with Carlton last & barred again from the draft, and we get the first 2 picks!

I think that a few people have taken my 1st thread the wrong way. I am not at all suggesting that I want the players to lay down & lose games if we weren't going to make the finals.
All I am asking is if we didn't make the finals would people prefer we won about 10 games & just missed out or would you rather us only have 4-5 wins for the season & be closer to the bottum of the ladder with a priority pick.
I personally hope we make the finals this year, but I'm not that sure it is going to happen. The queston came up the other day as my wife asked me if I would prefer to finish 9th or last & I said last as we would get a couple of good draft picks & hopefully would be closer to getting back to the top than we would if we finished 9th.

Now we are starting be see a clearer picture i think..dont you Disco?

Didint you ask the same questions in the first quarter last week?
Why tonight? Why for a quarter?
Why do you show us that you have endeavour, and the ablity to run through the lines?

The team doesn't have to tank games deliberately..........they've perfected the art of losing that they can now do it without even trying.
