When turnover is your 1-wood, you are essentially planning for the oppo to win the ball.

When you are planning for the oppo to win the ball, you sacrifice stoppage.

When you sacrifice stoppage, the oppo can generate coalface possession at will.

When the oppo can generate coalface possession at will, momentum swings are possible.

When momentum swings are possible, our back six will eventually come under fire from quick entries.

When our back six comes under fire from quick entries, the oppo is liable to score.

666 and stand makes momentum swings turbo-charged.

Most importantly, we CANNOT generate our own momentum from winning the ball at the coal face.

Our entire system is reliant on winning contests and outnumbers forward of oppo possession.

So if quick goals are needed, we have to turn it over first. Which makes it hard, especially when pressure is slightly off.

Footy in 2022 seems to be a momentum game more than ever. And we currently lack the tactical tools (and the personnel) to arrest the surges against us.

My conclusion? As stoppage players, Trent Cotchin and Dion Prestia were our most important players 2017-2020, Dusty the cream on the cake.

Dion is the only one left with ammo in the chamber and he can’t do it alone.

Something not quite right down back. North seem to score every time in went in there. Even entries that started from our forward 50

It is very disheartening watching opposition teams stream out of the middle and roll over us time and time again. Agreed, we need more quality ammo asap.

Well described & that’s the heart of the issue.

I’d throw in that we also rely on an undersized 1st ruck In Nank. Although he’s a competitor, he’s only 199cm with not much leap. Gets beaten by bigger rucks.

Exactly, we don’t have a midfield and people are saying we need to sack the coach, get better assistant coaches, do more mindfulness training and be more punitive to players giving away 50 metre penalties.

It would have been great if some of our draft pics were more fruitful and Dion wasn’t on his own, but drafting isn’t an exact science and we are where we are.

The next two drafts need to be raining midfielders (if we can’t trade for any ready made heavy lifters).

No plan b or alternatively the cattle to implement it is a massive problem

We don’t help ourselves with midfield structure either. We’re so poor in this part of the game, why don’t we play tight, shoulder to shoulder at every set-up?

At least force every stoppage to be a contested scrap. Was pathetic at times today.

Yet again, coaches didn’t try things - Balta as a ruck rover, Baker?, Pickett?

Yep.

Thanks to SHocking, the game changed.

And we haven't adapted at all.

Lack of personnel or arrogance?

I'm not sure anymore

Very good question really.

We know we aren't good at getting clearances, especially when the opposition get a run on. So why are we trying to get our clearance players free of the opposition? It just means the opposition clearance players are clear of our players and get clean possession.

Makes no sense.

Been saying all year we turn it over.

We are too easy to play against. Sides just roll back, clog the space we’re trying to work through, and wait for us to turn it over. We don’t have the skill level to work through it. Add to the fact we absolutely butcher the ball when having a shot and it gets bloody annoying.

And if we lack intensity in a game, well it just becomes a disaster then. Teams just run all over us.

And "when turnover is your 1-wood", skilled players are not a priority, they now need to be. With 666 and the stand rule, skilled players are a must.

With Gibcus, Sonsie, Banks, Clarke and Browne we have commenced to address that need in last years draft.
