Going through our list today....and I know there have been numerous threads about this subject....but with our new hard nosed coach starting tomorrow, maybe a hard look at our list is in order. This is how Graystar sees it at the moment.

Definite keeps

Collins
Connors
Cotchin
Cousins
Deledio
Jackson
McGuane (even though I am critical)
Moore
Morton
Newman
Rance
Richardson
Riewoldt
Tambling

Possible Keeps

Edwards
Foley
McMahon
Patterson
Polo
Post
Raines
Thursfield
Tuck
Vickery
White

Now, that means 14 must keeps and 11 possible keeps out of a list of 40....total 25. Therefore there are 15 on the cusp. One can shift possible keeps onto the must keep list or vice versa, but at the end of the day we possibly could have 15 spots to fill.

I guess that can't happen., but the remaining 15 players on our list would struggle to get a game on any given weekend.

What a dilemma for DH?? Who to keep and who to scrub?? The ensuing weeks will tell the tale, and will be of great interest to us all, especially who the replacements will be. The Clawed One would have course get rid of more than 15. Good luck Damien

What the hell? What team have you been watching? How are these players 'possible keeps'?

Why would we draft and give games to both Vickery and Post - and then consider not keeping them?

Because we can't delist every player in one year. And, I did say possible keeps.

Well Foley and Thursty have been resigned.

You've got Connors before Vickery and Post? Don't think so.

Even if Vickery and Post weren't worth keeping (and they are) you can't delist a draftee without giving them at least 2 years. I'd put McGuane, Moore and Connors on that list before the two above.

so we delist our top ten pick (Vickery) after one year.

And post is our great KPP hope.

Big grey area in your selections man.

TRADE

Tuck
Schulz
Mcmahon
Patison

DELIST

Simmonds
Pettifer
Sylvester*

Upgrade Nahas obviously.
We have rookie spot we didn't use, so that's 12 new players coming to the club

TRADE NEED
we need a ruckmen about Pattos age but somone with pace.
Then draft juniors

Graystar. keeping Rance and maybe keeping Post and Vickery. Bit early for mad Monday isn't it?

In a discussion with Gary March, Dermie said that an exercise in 2004 to find players on the list who could be premiership players found 22 and in last year's premiership team 15 of those listed played. Gary said they hadn't had that extensve exercise but volunteered a figure of 13, which might have been a figure lurking in the shadows in the coaching interviews.

Who are those 13, I undertook a little exercise in dividing our list into (a) Yep- quality AFL players or those likely to be quality AFL players (b) maybes -those who have shown something to hang a potential hat on (however tenuous in some circumstances) and (c) Nup - those either past it through age or injury or those who just dont show enough. Funnily enough the yeps numbered 15 and include Cuz and Richo who are on limited time leaving 13.

Yep Maybe Nup

Newman, Polak Raines
Willy T Polo Simmonds
Deledio Lukey Mcg Johnson
Riewoldt, Putt Brown
Cotchin Jackson Rance
Edwards Schulz Pettifer
Richo Thompson Bowden
Morton Gourdis Macmahon
Vickery White Tuck
Tambling Connors JON
Cousins Moore Cogs
Post Browne Pattison
Nahas Gilligan Cleve
Collins Hislop Silvestor
Foley King Graham

Using the above logic keeping the yeps and maybes - you get to 15 delistings /trades fairly easily. Some of the maybes are marginal too .

Graystar, I raise my eyes that one you have Connors on your must keeps and two that he is your number two. I am continually amazed at the love affair PREnders have with Connors. I see he has some talent and would love for him to make it, but how many years has he had in the system for how many games?? And this year did not come on at all?? I think there are big questions over this guys ability to play at AFL standard regarding.

no the clawed one would not get rid of more than 10 from the list proper in one go. with rookies claw would have as many as 12 new faces though.with rookie promotions the list proper would go like this of course trades are to speculative so i wont factor in trades if we have any at all. nahas browne 3 19 35 51 67 83 84 psd pick2. thats 10 delistings plus we should take 4 new rookies giving a total of 12 new faces which excludes nahas and browne.

oh a final note i think mcmahon will be kept because of his contract. with so many senior players going he may help with us reaching the tpp as well. not a good situation allround.

Third year and had a number of injuries both in the preseason and during the year.

He is one guy I think Hardwick will pull into line. A keeper for 2010.

Yes, I agree that he is a keeper for next year given our list status. But he is not in my must keep at all costs list. Needs to show more next year or it will be his last.

hmm march would be right. and funnily i agree primarily with your yeps. moore i would add to those yeps.
theres about 7 maybes i would currently add to the nups. which would make 22 as a minimum and there is one nup rance i would add to the maybes. but all in all pretty close to what needs to happen for now.

They were not in order ITB. Just in alpha order. The point I was trying to make was that there is a list of 25...26 after adding Nahas which leaves 14 possible delistings. I was not priortising them in any order.
