Sorry if something similar is posted elsewhere, feel free to merge mods. Took me a million years to assemble the table with all the little brackets and such so appreciate!

Doesn't this just show that poorly performed teams end-up with high draft picks?

I can sympathise

That list and our position on it is just such an indictment of our club.

Unfortunately Streaker, there aren't many measures, tables, lists etc that paint us in a favorable light.

Hard to do these sort of stats because you need some sort of lag. Carlton are probably only getting the benefit of Murphy, Kreuzer, Gibbs and Yarran now.

But it surely makes the picks-fetishists and tankists stop and wonder. Maybe there is more to winning than early draft picks.

There is but they wont give us Sydney & Collingwood's fixtures, concessions or umpiring directives.

Oh and yeah I agree with your point generally! ;D

I can't believe we haven't won a premiership in the 0 finals appearances we've had.

It's all culture....and ours was/is still stuffed.

Culture is one of the hardest things to change, some of the biggest organisations will pay millions of dollars to try and change their culture but it's very hard to stop once the rot has set in.

Low on high dps, the Swannies have done remarkably well with bringing in recycled players to fill positional needs.

Niche marketing really. The Swans have cornered the market in trading for fringe players, North have cornered the market in VFL and state league types, Geelong know most people will hate living there so stick mostly to country kids, Freo trawl the WAFL, Adelaide used to get a freebee from the SANFL every year, Port used to have the inside running on indigineous kids and Territorians.

There is a good arguement for specialising when you are under-resourced. Maybe we can go back to picking the eyes out of Tassie every year :)

the good thing is most of our top 10's are going to be at the same age (Vickery Cotchin Martin Conca) with Deledio a bit older.

If Lids and Foley or any guys outside our younger group that had currency; I wouldn't object to trading them to get more top 5; top 10 picks through the door; even trading Lids for that Jaeger character would be a win.

I think you'd be a lot better off looking at Top 3 picks, most years there is a massive difference in quaility between the top 3 and picks 8-10. It is rare for a top 3 pick not to become at least very good player (often they are stars), whereas many picks between 4-10 don't make it (don't we know all about that).

Carlton are a good example, they have Judd, Walker, Gibbs, Murphy and Kreuzer - all top 3 picks and there is pretty much the answer as to why they are in the finals this year.
