I was amazed at how small our forward line was at one stage on Friday night. Schulz had gone off holding his injured hand and all we had left was smalls. I thought Marsh would have been better value standing in the goal square to take a mark rather than sitting on the bench.

Have to agree Rosy. Marsh was recruited as a back up for staff/otto, which we have seen has been the case. However, his form over the past couple of matches has been poor. Would have been interesting to see how he would have gone at FF, just to give the guys further up the ground a big target to aim at.

The number of ppl who constantly bag Richo should have a look at our forward set up the past couple of games, we surely miss the big fella as a target.

Looking forward to seeing Staff and Richo back out there!

Sarge was being used as a decoy - and it worked well. Kept at least 1 key defender in the goal square and out of the play, allowing Brown & Hilton to run around madly. Agree that Marsh could have been used like that, although he is not a goalkicker.

Congrats to 'them' for bringing Chaffey & Fiora up the ground. Chaff looked dangerous until he had to go back onto Williams.

Good to see Chaff up the ground,as if he did make one of his regular turnovers, its less damaging doing it up our end then in the oppositions forward 50, Fiora likewise

I'de like to see Chaff further up the gound...perhaps level 2 of the stands. That is the only way his lack of skill won't hurt us time and time again.

I was pleased with Rory's first q but he went home after the knock early in the second. It must have hurt more than it appeared.

I would have tried Wellar at FF before Marsh.
Surprised with Hilton performance. Good start but faded after he kicked his 3rd goal.
Weller can not hit a target, needs work.
Caffey and Fiora turned the ball over too easy with bad kicks or dad decisions.
What happen to kraks? Hardly seen him.
Ottens played very weel agaisnt Spider, great effort.
Campbel was solid in the half back line, took two great marks.
Shultz need more time, but may be injured.
Flemming has played some decent football in the past 2-3 weeks.
And Brown has great in the first half. Like the rest of the team, faded in the second half ;)

Not to worry,Richo and Stafford are back.Suddenly we have a big forward line again. What I thought was good last Friday about the forward line was that it was open.Rarely were our forwards double teamed.I like Hilton down there. Kudos has to go to danny for once.I wouldn't have thought of using Hilton there.

Ideal for us I think is Richo and Brown 2 out.Hilton the 3rd option. and perhaps Ottens and Staff changing as half forward.I know it wont happen but thats the way I'd play it.

We've tried that before when we've been short on talls, with some success. Hawthorn rely a lot on quick transition from the backline through players like Smith and on Friday, Crawford. Going small for periods means that we can match them for pace and pressure their disposal out of the backline. Marsh is too slow for someone like Beaumont or even Graham and we may have been cut-up on the rebound.
Was a good coaching move to have Fiora virtually tagging Smith and drawing him deep into Hawthorn's backline. Smith had a very ordinary night and that was instrumental in our win.

Hi,
Had to miss Friday night because of the annual CMCA presentations. Ducked out with a collegue, who has alot to do with Collingwood, to look at the big screen.
When he saw Chaffey he said that every one at Collingwood laugh when Chaffey gets the ball. That there was an expectation he was going to turn it over.
Said there were Tigers such as Richo, the Kellaways and others who had bad kicking styles. But he couldn't understand why Chaffey with a good kicking action could constantly turn the ball over.
He also said half the reason we beat Collingwood was that Chaffey didn't play.
I'm not anti-Chaffey, but maybe because of his reading the play and his great marks I've previously seen him through rose coloured glasses.

I use to be a fan of Chaffey myself until I started noticing how many times he'll turn the ball over. The guy knows how to get it, but he doesn't know how to use it. Maybe it's Spuds game plan, but there is times I swear he doesn't want to take the ball because his scared he'll turn it over.
