I have read with interest many postings on this site calling for many current players to be sacked and to be replaced with kids in the national draft.

What we have to realise is that there can only be so many changes next year. If the club delists 15 players and replaces them with 15 kids from the national draft, come round 1 next year the club will only have about 23 players that are ready to play AFL Football.
In any case probably half of these kids would have been taken at pick 70 or after in the national draft and history tells us that only about 5% of players taken at pick 70 or after go on and establish themselves as regular AFL players. Therefore if the club recruits kids for the sake of recruiting kids, there is every chance that some of these kids will have less to offer the Richmond Football Club than some of the current players that are under scrutiny.

I have listed the following players as those that are likely to come under the most scrutiny for next year.
- Clinton King
- Craig Biddiscombe
- Royce Vardy
- Mills
- Rogers
- Dragicevic
- Duncan Kelleway
- Pettifer
- Houlihan
- Adam Pickering
- Tim Fleming
- Rory Hilton

Many of these players will have no trade value as far as other clubs go.

The bottom line is that it is very difficult to simply delist all of these players and replace them with all with kids. The harsh reality is that there will probably be some players that have to retained (who in all reality are probably not up to AFL Level or who are past their best) simply because the club cannot delist half of its squad in one hit.

I would be interested in the thoughts of those people on this site who have been calling for mass sackings as to how they would manage the situation this situation that the club is facing. What would you do if you were appointed the Richmond Coach?

I've posted this on another thread, but here's a copy -

We have 14 possible delistings/retirements (what a disgrace)

-Duncan
-Cameron
-Rogers
-Bidders
-King
-Houlihan
-Petifer
-Nicholls
-Mills
-Fleming
-Hyde
-Dragga
-Vardy
-Hilton

Realistically (seing that we are 3 short as is) you could possibly delist 9-10. If I were in charge the players to go would be -

-Rogers
-Mills
-Bidscombe
-King
-Cameron
-Houlihan
-Duncan
-Vardy
- Petifer
- Nicholls

The players to get a last chance would be

-Fleming
-Hyde
-Hilton
-Dragga
The only thing going for these players is their age and toughness in the case of Fleming and Hilton.

Seeing that we have 36 on our list the above delisting would mean we'd have 26. Promote shir and Moore = 28. This means we need another 10 (max is 38). The draft would produce 6 players maximum if we don't trade for draft picks. Therefore we need to trade some better players for more than one draft pick OR a pick and a player in order to find 3-4 more picks/players.

Possible scenarios -

Trade Richo for a round 1 pick AND a player or round 2/3 pick.
Trade Bowden for a round 2 pick AND a player or round 3/4 pick
Trade Holland for a round 2 pick AND a player or round 3/4 pick
Trade Hall for a round 3 pick AND a player or round 4/5 pick
Trade Fiora for a round 2 pick AND a player or round 4/5 pick.

In order to fill up the list we need to come out positive with all trades and need to stack up with draft picks.

Also we will need to utilise the preseason draft to get 1 or 2 more players.

Its a fair list of possible delistings / trade (if any team is stupid enough).

However, I'd keep Fleming, shown enough courage to remain.

Rogers, unfortunately has one year left on his contract, should do the right thing and retire.

Kellaway - need his exprience and his determination.

The rest, dont cut it, see ya later thats all folks.
