Reported in todays Herald-Sun, David Clayton is standing for a spot on the board in the upcoming elections. He has stated that he doesnt want to try and make a hero of himself just try and put some of the views of the members across.

Some of the long term development he would like to see is:

Restoring the post season Punt Road family day

Boosting junior memberships through school visits and providing passes to students for games

Cultivating untapped markets such as new arrivals to Melbourne.

Working to boost Country and Interstate membership five fold over five years

Free Level 1 Telstra seats to members aged over 55

Expanding the historical societys resources and promoting its role

Consider pay rises for trainers, masseurs and property staff.

Consider providing food and drink discounts to members.

Is this what the supporters have been asking for? If may be!! The thing that i would be unsure on is how many people would actually vote for David?

Three directors are challenging for re-election.
Tony Jewell
Peter Welch
Gary march.

The AGM is expected to be held in January.

Who would others like to see nominte for the board?

I think Benny would be great. I admire Caro and think she'd have a lot to add. I don't know if Tommy Hafey would be into the politics of the club but I'd trust him to have our best interests at heart.

I like the idea of a representitve of the people. I'd love to do it myself actually, ha. ;D

We need someone in touch with the issues and needs relevant to the grass roots supporters. A person who's willing to question rather than blindly accept what they're told all of the time.

A Don Chipp kind of member to "keep the bastards honest."

The supporters will be around long after the staff at the club have sailed off into the sunset. I'd love to have one of them representing us. The trouble is choosing the right one when they are generally low profile people and we don't know much about them.

Also it will be interesting to see if there are any changes on the board due to leaked memogate. ;)

P.S. Were Clinton Casey and Rob Turner elected unopposed last AGM? If so I presume both have 2 years to go?

This will be the first time I've ever excersised my voting rights. I look forward to some interesting discussion when nominations are announced.

Yes on both counts ;)

I think all PREnders should excercise their voting rights and give Tony Jewell the big flick. He's been their too long and overseen to much mediocrity and underperforming to be given another term.

I would love to see Benny Gale on the board. He would have to be one the most intelligent and well-spoken footballers of the last 20 years. His experience with the law and as president of the players' association would be invaluable. He is also young and knows the club inside out.

This Clayton bloke wants to revert to the post season family day B&F am I reading right. Please next thing he will call for Mcdonalds awards to the best on ground

I remember listening to Mark Lee interviewed in about 1985 or 1986 about where Richmond was as a club.

It was a pre-game radio interview (the General was injured at the time). He had some very interesting views and no problems in articulating them. The radio team kept saying how impressed they were with the way he handled himself during the interview.

I've always wondered why the club had never tried to use Lee in some capacity, whether it be developing him in a coaching or board role. He certainly talks a lot better than the Flea (nothing against him)!

Im not voting for any bloke who hasnt got the guts to demand the sacking of Frawley, Brittain, Hutchinson and Beck. The first bloke who makes this announcement should be made el presidente ;D

Good initiative although there are a few of those already of sorts aren't there

Boosting junior memberships through school visits and providing passes to students for games

mmm- who pays for the free passes?

Cultivating untapped markets such as new arrivals to Melbourne.

what about cultivating support among some of the existing people in melbourne?. i've heard mention about the low representation of melbourne's minority groups in richmond's supporter base, especially those that reside in the suburb of richmond itself nowadays!.

Working to boost Country and Interstate membership five fold over five years

if this means free passes and other special deals for interstaters then he has my vote easily ;D ;D

Free Level 1 Telstra seats to members aged over 55

i know where he's coming from with this one but i think it should apply to people with a disability that inhibits their ability to climb stairs rather than some age group. many people that struggle climbing stairs are aged under 55

Expanding the historical societys resources and promoting its role

Again, who pays?

Consider pay rises for trainers, masseurs and property staff.

WHO PAYS?

Consider providing food and drink discounts to members.

good initiative but where's the money coming from. i hope the plan is not to hike our membership fees and then give us discounts :p

oh- sorry for 2nd post- if benny gale ran for the board he'd have my vote for sure.

he's intelligent, footy smart and bleeds yellow and black, say no more.

er- caroline wilson would not have my vote- too antagonistic imo. i don't think the board would reach a decision on anything with her around.

rosy- if you're interested in it, i think you should run for the board. you'd certainly have my vote if this site is any reflection of your dedication to promoting the interests of the RFC :)

i would love to have rex hunt on board as president. caroline wilson because of her role in the media. and anybody who knows the importance of a good youth program, preferably someone who has been at another club and been thru a successful rebuilding program.

hey claw, i too think hunt would be good on the board although did he turn down an offer to join the board at one stage or another in the past?

my only problem is he may be too autocratic. if we're to have a people's champion on the board we want the remaining members to listen to him/ her and not talk over the top of them. i think hunt could act in that manner on occasions (he certainly does so on his show) :-\

Here here Laffs.
I found that article about Clayton, about as interesting as Steve Bracks discussing policy for the unemployed.
Sounds like a simpleton to me, but then again arent 95% of the supporters that way inclined anyway?
Next he will be pushing for Sunnyboys for all the battlers who sit in the red seats!
If he cant support the real RFC supporters (the rich ones), throw his ballot paper where it belongs:- the bin!

Ditto to Benny GALE as a board member. He is a very astute person who would act with the utmost integrity and really has he club at heart.

Just don't know whether Benny has enough time left in his schedule or not.

Also think Rex would be very good. He would have the club at heart and will call a spade a spade although yes he is sometimes a bit outspoken, but that couldn't hurt at times.

Does Clayton realise that all the RFC membership problems would disappear if they bloody won some games!!

Like the club itself he's only addressing the fringe issues rather than attacking the real problems ie no premierships in 20 years, poor recruiting, coaching etc etc etc.

Before you vote for anyone ask yourselves "What can this person do to help Richmond win a premiership?"

Here Here Gus.

I too do not know David but atleast he is prepared to put his hand up and have a go. From what I read he is very passionate about Richmond and loves the Tigers.

Look at the Board Members that are up for re-election. It is not like they have set the world on fire in their time at Richmond.

Spot on TF !

I can’t understand how this maniacal freak has not come under the microscope for his long-standing involvement in the failure of RFC over the last 20 years.

He is an outdated, dictatorial fool who’s rantings at board and selection committee meetings are legendary.

As a board member, a selection committee member, and a director of football, he has to be held accountable for the deplorable playing lists and coaches that we’ve had throughout his time.

I’ve said for years that one of RFC’s greatest failings is its lack of astute and contemporary football representatives on its board.

Therefore, I urge all PRE-minents to NOT vote for this 80’s buffoon in the upcoming elections.

Dump Colonel Sanders !
