That team does not fill me with confidence for the medium term

Been saying it for a while, worst collection of young players in the league.

Toce has the job in front on him. Compare that midfield to the under 24 Sydney one who could have Gulden, Warner and Rowbottom in the guts with McInnery and Jordan on the wings. It would be a blood bath.

Our team will be relying on many of those players in the near future, which does not fill me with confidence

There are 6 to 8 on that list who should be relied on play into the future. We will add 5/6 this year and at least 3 next year. This is where we need to get it right to avoid an extended period out of the 8.

Personally I think theres some good potential there, you're never going to get 70-100% of them nailed, some will fail. and yes there are no stars there but thats bc of where our evolution is. Our better players are outside or just outside that bracket due to where the club has been recently. Doesnt mean our list is bereft of talent. Thats a very simple way of looking at it. Theres a lot of water to go under the bridge over the next 2-3 years, talent will go but top end talent will come in. The sky isnt falling.

I have hopes for the following becoming bonafide regulars.
Gibcus
Brown
Campbell
McAuliffe
HRS
Trezise
Rioli
Ross
Smith
Clarke

Add our regulars and stars to that as well as a good haul this draft and its not too bad!!

Im on the fence with the rest, I also think Mansell is a decent soldier that 18-25 type player. I think cumberland and Sonsie have heaps of talent but I havent just thrown their names in there. Not sure about banks, Green, Coulthard, Dow, Ryan and Bauer

Finally a post with some reason. I'm seriously starting to question some of the intelligence levels of posters on here. Jumping up and down because we don't have a bunch of stars out of our 20's, 30's and 40's picks!! Its frankly a ridiculous argument.

I've said something similar to you in the past, we have been recruiting out next bunch of role players due to the picks we have had (Gibcus excluded), once we get more of those 1st rounders and in particular top 5 -10 picks, then we can start looking at the list and seeing our next group of stars (hopefully). If we fail with those, then people can jump up and down and scream etc, but for now we are looking for signs that these players can play as 10-22 players in our squad, and I agree with the bunch you have named as certainly being options that can do that. Its getting those next group that will be in our top 10 players and in particular top 5 players for the next 10 years which is what we are attacking this years draft with.

It is the reality of 10 years at the top. Probably needs to consider Taranto and Hopper, given we gave up first picks for them.

We all know we need a few years at least of accessing top 5 picks, plus some strong hits with top 20 picks. Just hard to endure during this period.

We won 3 premierships on the back of Cotchin, Dusty, Jack and Rance, complimented by the likes of Edwards, astbury, flossy, Grimes, etc. Plus critical trades with Prestia, Lynch, etc

We need these picks, and a bit of luck, to then rebuild a competitive team around them. Those good enough in the list above will have an important role to fill out a competitive 22.

It's going to be a long road back 😪

Yes, add them to the like of Bolton, Balta, Taranto, Hopper, Baker, DRioli & Oliver Hayes-Brown, who will get another 5+years out (or trade for good picks).

No guarantees, but the team we put out next year will look very different to the one we have this year (fitness permitting), and the team we have in 4 or so years will look different again.
