An old coach of mine (he won't mind me calling him old, I hope... used to love the saying, "The harder you work, the luckier you get." It was almost a mantra he used to live by (and made us live by every pre-season and training night).
Have a read of these comments from Darren Crocker from Eye of the Tiger, regarding Nathan Brown:
As a small forward, it’s good to be able to free yourself up occasionally and have a run around in the midfield, especially if you are wearing a close tag. Because Browny can have such an impact when he pushes up the ground, it adds another string to his bow.
I mentioned Leon Cameron’s exquisite kicking skills on both feet earlier, but from one ex-Bulldog to another, Browny's kicking around the ground is nearly as good as it gets.
This brings his teammates into the game as well.
If you watched Nathan closely you, too, undoubtedly would make the observations I have. What a lot of people would not see, however, is how hard he works on his game.
He has put some of our players to shame with the amount of time he spends working on his field kicking, ground level play, marking on the lead under pressure, crumbing and his general goalkicking.
While it's disappointing that he put some of our players to "shame", it's great to have such a professional player come to the club and bring the required work ethic with him. I hope his attiude can rub off on others, then we will see a lift in skills, second efforts and all the other little things that go into making a successful AFL side.
Onya Brownie, keep up the great work. ;D
