Great to see RODAN showing a bit of confidence in taking players on and running the lines, but one habit annoys the hell out of me.

He grabs the ball takes off, takes 3 steps and bounces the bloody thing. He should be told to use his explosive pace to create space b4 taking the 1st bounce.

He usually only covers about 3 metres b4 his first bounce and is taking his 2nd after about 15 metres.

Re:T D-Rod

IMO, taking a bounce after a couple of steps is a positive.

Because he is so quick of the mark, an early bounce enables him to then look up, knowing he has another 15 or so steps before he has to either kick it or bounce again, whichever option he choses.

The problem for him is I don't think he sums up the situation quick enough, therefore gets confused and just keeps running and bouncing and ends up breaking the play down upfield as a result.

This however, comes down to experience where I have confidence that he has the footy brain to learn this skill, and use his pace to the benefit of the situation.

Pace is a God given gift, the RFC could use more (but taller) Rodans running around.

Re:T D-Rod

Suppose its a bit of an each way bet at times hey newmo.

Admittedly I only get to see the replays so its hard to see what happening downfield, but it appeared to me that by bouncing so quickly he may have been missing opportuniities to move the ball upfield a bit quicker given our talls a better chance of a one on one contest, or dare I say it actually pass to a leading forward.

I suppose a lot depends on where he actually takes possession of the ball as well.

Ok Ok maybe I am dillusional after 21 weeks of torment.

Re:T D-Rod

No, you're right - it is a bit of an each way bet.

He does have a tendancy to run and bounce before he looks up which can have a negative effect as players are caught out of position if the ball isn't sent their direction immediately.

I am only commenting on that if you are to take a bounce, it's not a bad way to do it by bouncing early and then looking up.

Even money on this one as you said gus.

Re:T D-Rod

Your about late Newmo. Will look forward to reading your feelings on the day at Punt Road tomorrow.

Would love to be there as it will be an emotional day for many.

Re:T D-Rod

Just on Rodan, was he playing TUNNEL BALL or FOOTBALL on the weekend.?
The time the ball went through his legs was terrible.
He actually got dragged for it.
and a further 3 times for costly errors as well.

Re:T D-Rod

He is a show pony that needs to be reeled in...doesn't get enough of the ball imo...crunch time next year

Re:T D-Rod

IMO, i think that rodan is great for us. he delivers some much needed pace around the ground, and its great to see such a small bloke doing so well for us.

Re:T D-Rod

Laff - Rodan is 19, turns 20 in October. How many players that young are having a "crunch year" next year?

Re:T D-Rod

Crunch time for Mr Rodan, DOES NOT give first option and tries to take oppponets on with leg speed.
Must be a nightmare for teamates trying to know what he will do.
this is a team sport not an individual sport.
Must give first option to be predictable to team mates otherwise this kid wont make it.
Doesnt chase real hard either, seems very fast with the ball, not so good without it.

I would have thought a good coach could turn these into positives.

As Dean3 said he is still only very young like Krak and both have probably exceeded expectations so far so give the kids a break.

They have time on there side and probably just need a bit of guidance.

Its very hard to change the way players play. They usuually gain bad habits from there school days and giving the ball at first option is something for hard to correct, its in the players make up.The Draft is designed to identify these definencies in players.
Rodan won two Best and Fairests in the TAC Under 18,s .
He probably should of been taken earlier in the draft.
although his size and his faults are well known by then.

Complete rubbish jackstar. Of course it is possible for players to change, knock off rough edges, improve weaknesses etc etc. Experience counts for an awful lot, as do preseasons.

While I have had my doubts about Rodan's "inside" abilities, I think he's shown some real improvement in the 2nd half of this year. He's strung together some consistent games and improved his use of the ball immensely. Hopefully he'll continue to improve his capacity to stay on the ball with another running preseason under his belt.

careful not to give your opinion jackstar it appears to be wrong if you do. Rodan has had very little impact on a game he runs and takes on players creating havoc down the ground. Gets caught with the ball to often....over looked in 2 drafts after 2 medals perhaps its a case of all the people can't be wrong

All players have downsides Laff - all you are doing is listing Rodan's.

I know, I know, I shouldn't be feeding the trolls ;D ;D

Take the master dudster out of the equation, and we'll see the real potential of Rodan.

The only players playing to anywhere near their full capabilities (apart from the obvious in Cogs, Newman, etc.) are the ones who have been around longer than the Dud has been at the club. ie, Chaffey, A.K., Stafford, Campbell, Gas, Tivva's - therefore are not as easily corrupted as newcomers to the AFL.

Frawley is a hindrance to players' progress, they get taught negative football, are not given enough freedom to exercise their true talents, have no real plan to their game and hence, are restricted in their rightful learning curves.

We may well have 3 or 4 champs at the club, but we'll never know until the real problem has been discarded.

If half the players showed the same enthusiasm and desire that young Rodan shows we would be having a year like 2001 where it is widely accepted that we "overperformed".
Give the kid a break, given the right guidance (which is a bit iffy right now!) he will turn into a fantastic ball getter and creator of play.

Rodans main issue is he doesnt give first option.
Real problem in a team sport.
Similar player we had at Richmond was Robert Powell. Refused to give first option. Went to saints, same problem.
You can be enthusiasic all you like but this is a team sport/
Let you in on something as well, some players learn quicker than others.
David Rodan decision making when kicking isnt real flash either.
He doesnt scan enough when he is carrying the footy and continues to kick to top of square when everyone is on a lead. This is one of Richos pet frustrations.
Have a look next time Rodan has the footy ;)

As I said when he was drafted, who is this dud!
Nothing has changed my opinion. He would rank in the top 10 of stupid/dumb footballers at tigerland!
He is an athlete only with no football brain at all.
I will make a prediction. His AFL career will be lucky to last 5 years!!!
