Was surprised that a thread hadn't already been started on this and also the lack of coverage in the media.

I think the general feel is that the phones are just down! The phones to some degree are the least of the problem.

All telstra related communications are down as well as all networks, eftpos and other forms of electronic transaction hence you can only use cash. However you cannot withdraw money from ATMs or anywhere else. Banks were open yesterday for a short period were only allowing people to withdraw $100. You needed photo ID to do this. The Commonwealth bank apparently ran out of money in Warrnambool! People are struggling to get the basics.

This has effected the entire SW from Camperdown to Hamilton and to the border. Mobiles were meant to be back up today but it will be days for everything else.

This is massive and I can see a huge law suit filed against Telstra. Would consider selling my shares if you have any! ;D

I heard about it this morning.

They say it will take weeks to recover.

All the banks, everything that relies on online comms is down.

Any comms that go through the telephone system are down.

Impacting 60,000 people not to mention the businesses. And people were up in arms over the closure of a tunnel in Melbourne a few weeks back!

Apparently mobile phones are a priority and almost operational again. Doesn't help the elderly who don't have them. It's an awful situation not being able to ring and check if family are ok or if they're home for a visit. A long way to drive 5 hours, as I'm planning for later next week, to find nobody home. Must be causing chaos over there. Hope it's fixed soon. If not I might have to get a carrier pigeon.
