Was looking at the results of the lower leagues such as VFL and metro (and other sports like basketball, netball) in the HUN and noticed that they use the term “Standings”. But for the AFL its still the “Ladder”.

When did the Yankee term “standings” come in to vogue?

Ever since every player and coach now pronounces 'defence' as 'deefence'.

And ‘shot on goal’ instead of ‘shot at goal’.

The one that annoys me the most is the over use of the word "the".

When they say, "so and so has only had the 10 disposals". You don't need to say THE. Every single footy commentator adds it, but its a useless addition to the sentence, the sentence does not require the extra the.

Its a little thing, but gee it annoys the crap out of me.

Standings is a horrible term, its table or ladder.

Its never table Mr P.
Not here :D

I think Dwayneee Russel tried using the term quarter back a few years back.
Must of been told to shut it.

I hate it when a team is winning like 80 to 55 with 5 mins to go and Brian Taylor (who i dont rate as a commentator) carries on and says,
theyre still a chance, theyre still a chance, boy oh boy...blah blah blah.

Its evident there is no chance 99% of the time.

He just does that so there's a chance that viewers don't change channels. Would be an instruction from 7 management.
