I think we all, even unconsciously, get into the habit of thinking spaceflight is all routine these days and forget it's still out on the edge stuff and things can go terribly wrong. Without people like these astronauts pushing the limits of technology, the human race would never progress.

Deepest sympathies to their families. :'(
 
A terrible tragedy. I'd hate to be one of the three astronauts still out there now too.
