So there's this funny little "East Asian Cup" tournament run by the AFC. Australia has never participated before so we have qualify - 4 games over seven days - in Hong Kong. We have to play such heavyweights as Hong Kong, Guam, North Korea and Chinese Taipei. If we top the group we qualify for the finals against Japan, China and South Korea to be played next year.

Holger has taken over a squad of old stagers (Emerton, Thompson, Galekovic, Mackay) and young up and comers. Last night on an absolute cow paddock we beat Hong Kong 1:0 with a late goal from Emerton. Standard of play was appalling.

So anyways, if you want to watch it's mostly on late nights streamed from http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au - you'll see some of our good young players but I can't vouch for the quality of the play.

Rogic made an immediate impact when subbed on, he needs to start these games.

Unfortunately the game was too depressing for me so I hit the sack before Rogic came on and the goal was scored, but from what I've seen of Rogic I'd agree. He looks like a quality mid for years to come, only a matter of time before he transfers to Europe.

the East Asian Cup is an irrelevant tournament IMO, but unfortunately we have to put our hand up for this to satisfy our asian overlords...

Or we could tell them to go to hell and rejoin the Oceana Confederation with it's .5 WC slot and a play off against Sth America

not saying joining asia is a bad thing, quite the opposite. but there are negatives to it as well. politics is the obvious one. but there are also many hoops the FFA must jump to satisfy them. eg. there is a lot of pressure from asia to not only expand the a-league, but to introduce a second division. a second division is at least 15-20 years away. as a result, perth glory were stripped of their asian champions league place last week at the last minute. dodgy stuff.

Central Coast who replace Perth go straight into the group phase but Brisbane who won the title have to play a qualifier to get into the group phase, please explain.

On another note, Australia have just smashed Guam 9-0 to go level with N.Korea on goal diff with 1 game each to play.

Central Coast won the Premiership - ie they won the league (finishing top of table). The Championship (the finals series and Grand Final winners) is considered less prestigious internationally. Think of the premiership as like finishing top of the table in the EPL and winning the championship like winning the FA Cup.

At least Archie was one victory player who had a good night last night. Where is he on the list of all time leading socceroos goal scorers? He must be in the top 3-4 by now

How did those 27 beers go Ian? I think you would have needed every single one of them last night!
