This has probably been discussed before but this old photo could be why goal-kicking has not improved much...our footy has changed shape. Here's the shape when Billy Picken played (sad he passed away)... It was more rounded and less pointy at the ends compared to the current Sherrin https://images.app.goo.gl/HrADaRWr1XW76zZL7.
I believe the old shape made it easier to kick drop punts. Most commentators complain about goal kicking not improving, well the reason could be the shape of the ball has changed even though players are more professional and training more. Could the Tigers do better with the old ball? Is the AFL in denial about this obvious change? I believe it should not have happened.
