Sitting down with a bottle of Pinot Noir to watch the Cats and Dogs. 3/4 time and the Cats up by 3, after being down by 5 goals early in the quarter. When was the last time the Tiges showed that type or ticker. I dont know the stats but i dont remember us coming back from 5 goals down to snatch the lead too often. Last i can remember woukd be Richos 200th vs Port.

Its the type of mental toughness this Club has not shown for a long time. Win or lose the Cats have done something I would never expect of the Tigers. I wish that wasnt the case.

I did qualify my statement in two ways though Roachy. 1 Not sure of the stats, and it doesnt happen often. 2 and most importantly sitting down with a bottle of red.

Indeed.

Cracking game. Hope the Dogs win just to squash any hopes Carlton had of getting into the top 4.

Just got back from this game and I'm in pain. It's been so long since I've been to a Tigers game that involved two such teams putting on a display of football skill and power that it hurts my brain trying to remember.

Tomorrow night I go to the G. I'm taking the pain killers before I go this time.

Take a good book so you don't completely spoil your weekend.

He's had 10 tackles so far. Muffin lucky to make so many in a month.

McMuffin would be lucky to make that many in a season. And in the rare event he does attempt a tackle any opponent over 70kgs would just break through his puny 12 year old girl arms.

That's being very disrespectful to some 12 year girls Antrid. They usually have nails and can hang on for a surprisingly long time (if I recall correctly) you know.

Well, last time we played the Hawks, they did not need to win.

This time, neither team really needs to win, it's all about pride.

We'll see how we fare later tonight... I'm a bit scared to be honest... :help

Anyone else now think that Geelongs mystique is starting to disappear. The Cats have conquered all for 2 years but are showing signs of falling away somewhat. They have lost the mental edge they had over opposition.

Yeah well the amount of injuries they've had will do that to any side. they've had no continuity since the loss to the Saints.

Cats are just about ready to take the tumble from the mountain top.
They'll still be a good side for some time but that air of invincibility is gone.
2004 nearly.
2005 nearly.
2006 choked on their own egos.
2007 glory.
2008 shot themselves in the foot.
2009 a few injuries and been the hunted for a bit to long, the empire is crumbling.
2010 will probably just be making up the numbers come finals time.

Not a lot to show for a sustained period of excellence.
If you compare the efforts of the recent premiership teams Esserdum, Port, Sydney, Wet Coke, Cats and Dawks, all bar Hawthorn who had a sustained run of finals footy. It just highlights how amazing the performance of Brisvegas was to win triple flags out of a possible four.

Yep they have had a heap of injuries to key players this season.
If they can get them all on the park they will be up there for a while yet.
That said they'll regret throwing last year's GF.

Cats could be similar to the Melbourne Storm who should have won 2 titles in a 3 year dominating period but only won in 2007.The Cats look like they will do a similar thing.

hmm to me the only yr that you could call a failure was 06. hawthorn in 08 took all before them once they got on a roll. no side could come to terms with their rolling maul. imo any chance geelong had in that game was gone with the shocking kicking at goal this has been a problem that has plaauged them for a fair while i suppose they become a bit how does one say it shoddy when kicking at goal especially when you create so many opportunities.

to me the real drain on their resources has been the loss of egan and i know they havent had him for awhile. the trading of king athe loss of ottens to injury and the premature retirement of ablett. theres a lot of structure gone out the window.

i heard a comment on the radio about geelong and to me it made some sense.geelong still win more ball than other sides but they have fallen it to the trap of a keepings of style and dont go forward with the ball. they are not going long they are not spreading well.like this caller on the radio i reckon there were signs last night especially in the 3rd quarter that they are coming to terms with this and doing something abaout it. better to iron out the faults now than in the finals. the concern for them imo is injuries and their ruck and forward line structure. chapman looks shot with hammie worries no ottens in ruck or forward and steve johnson well it will be a work in practice to keep getting him up thru a tough finals campaign.
