Has anyone got the definitive answer as to how long a player can be on the rookie list ?

We presently have 3 players, Stacky, Marlion & Aarts who have already been on the rookie list for 4 years, with Marlion re-signing can he be on the RL for a 5th year, or do we need to upgrade him to main list ?

Before Covid it was a max 3 years as rookie

TIA

They changed the rule for 2022 to allow a fourth year in the rookie list. I think they will all need to be updgraded to the main list or delisted after this year. So I beleive Marlion will be upgraded to the main list at the end of this year.

As above, thought it was 3 but was extended to 4 for this year.

The AFL like to play these sort of things very late for some reason. They haven't even told the Gold Coast yet whether their list size concessions will be removed, their pre listing concessions will be removed or even if they get the Pick 19 they were promised in this years draft.

My guess is we won't hear about this until October. AFL amateur hour as usual.

it was 3 years, then they had be delisted and redrafted. so Aarts would be safe. not so sure about the other 2.

Aarts safe ??, he has already been on RL for 4 years, same as Stack & Pickett
I meant he could be delisted, and re-drafted. I doubt anyone would poach him. The other 2 would maybe/prob get picked before we had the chance.

they only need to be given 1 year contracts when drafted, as opposed to 2 for ND picks. in theory it allows club to be more speculative. obvious in practice it doesnt achieve that purpose.

just change it to list size of 44 and anyone drafted after rd 3 or in the mid season draft gets 1 year contract

yep. or draftees can nominate a min of 1 or 2 year initial contract- like the mid season draft does.

I certainly don't know he rules on Rookies but since Miller has been given a two year contract, surely he is off the Rookie list now? Perhaps someone may be able to elucidate for me
