Anyone diving into the $1.01?

Richmond $1.01
Melbourne $16.00

Richmond Under 39.5 $4.50
Richmond Over 39.5 $1.20

Melbourne Under 39.5 $17.00
Melbourne Over 39.5 $81.00

Line is at 70.5 points

I'm not a gambler, so don't follow the odds too much, but was wondering how often the line the bookies place (put, offer, whatever) is close to the final margin.

Anything over $15 head to head is not a bad bet. Upsets happen.

Not this week, Melbourne would struggle to beat Williamstown, Richmond will win, it's all about the margin and may it be a big one.

Not too sure about footy Rob, but bookies tend to nail basketball lines, particularly match totals. Regularly see basketball totals get within a couple of points of the line. I go alright betting on US sports, but basketball lines are a no go zone for me.

I would say footy lines would be less accurate as the game can be a lot less predictable. My best guess would be that bookies err on lines by setting them a bit high, especially when there is a big favourite.

The first time we played the GCS maybe ?

:hihi

I'm reminded of how we had to fight tooth and nail to shake off the Giants last year, who had been every other sides plaything. That was a nerve racking afternoon.

How many games in the last few years would we have won by over 70 points?

Given our history with Gold Coast, our struggle with GWS last year and the scrappy win we put together against the Dees late in the season, I'd be suprised if we can cover that line.

Jeepers, when was the last time we were $1.01?

Our shortest quote ever!! Our previous shortest head to head quote was $1.04 against Fitzroy in Round 21, 1996 - a match we won by 151 points.

After the Richmond song they played the Fitzroy song as it was their last ever match in Melbourne. All supporters, Tigers and Roy Boys sang their hardest.

I shed a little tear or two - this was the death of footy as I had known it. This was the day it became a business.

Back to the odds, Tigers to cover the line easily. We beat the doggies by 67pts and they are actually a football side and not a laughing stock.

Article in Herald Sun says that over past 10 years we have started shorter than $1.20 5 times, for two wins, two losses and a draw....one of the wins coming after Nathan Brown kicked 5 in the last quarter to overcome Collingwood.

We havent coped with overwhelming favoritism well at all.

It's interesting I would pay $50 if it meant we would win this week by 80 plus points. I might bet the line so that I get compensated if we win under 70 points.
