Fans: you can judge a book by its cover

Fancy yourself as an intellectual who was born to shop and hold dinner parties? Chances are you're a North Melbourne fan.

Whether you've been playing billiards with Richmond fans or joining Hawthorn supporters on lavish weekends away, the results of Roy Morgan's latest survey of AFL supporters showed supporters' habits continue to match age-old stereotypes.

The poll, of 27,000 people across Australia in 2004, found Melbourne supporters were more likely to own their own houses, while Collingwood and Richmond fans remain famously passionate. Carlton and Essendon fans were found to favour tough physical activity. Geelong supporters attend church more regularly, with Saints fans favouring salary sacrifice for charities.

Among the more peculiar findings, here's how some teams fared:

CARLTON: Fans were found to be 42 per cent more likely to have been to a casino in the past three months and 20 per cent more likely to like tough physical activity.

COLLINGWOOD: 23 per cent more likely to buy take-away food to eat at home and 62 per cent more likely to have purchased something from The Reject Shop in the last four weeks.

ESSENDON: 17 per cent more likely to wear clothes that will get them noticed and 21 per cent more likely to sometimes use force to get things done.

GEELONG: Cats fans were 12 per cent more likely to drive a Ford and 39 per cent more likely to regularly go to church or a place of worship.

HAWTHORN: 23 per cent more likely to read the business section of the newspaper and 23 per cent more likely to have been to live theatre in the last three months.

KANGAROOS: 19 per cent more likely to believe they are a bit of an intellectual, with 16 per cent more likely to have held a dinner party in the last three months.

MELBOURNE: 17 per cent more likely to have a diploma or degree; 20 per cent more likely to own their own home.

RICHMOND: 18 per cent more likely to choose a car mainly on its looks and 13 per cent more likely to have played pool/snooker/billiards in the last three months.

ST KILDA: 11 per cent more likely to believe they are an environmentalist at heart and 18 per cent more likely to have played a musical instrument or sung in a band or choir in the last three months.

WESTERN BULLDOGS: Fans were 22 per cent more likely to believe that homosexual couples should be allowed to adopt children and 17 per cent more likely to go out of their way for a bargain.

Geez, this means I'm a closet Roos/Demons' supporter!   :hihi

not quite there Roar.
I would think as a Demon you would 33% of the time own a Range Rover and hit the snow fields when the dees are plumbing the depths of the ladder.
Indeed the club has the supporters at heart when they give them what they have for the last 10 years, one year of good footy, followed by another year of sh!te so they are able to pursue their passion for skiing.

Which if you extend this to the tiger suopporters well, after what we have had served up to us in the last 20 years, we should all be ready to get a gig on Pot Black. 8)

:-[ Have to put my hand up for the car bit!
Roar if they were at all intellectual they wouldn't follow the Roos/Demons >:D
