Here’s a tragic-comedy blast from the recent past

I was reading a cookbook I hadn’t picked up in a couple of years. It had a book mark in it on an A6 bit of paper out of a memo pad. It has 2 lists of Richmond players on it in my brothers handwriting. I remember making the lists with him over a few beers drowning our sorrows after yet another flogging.

The headings of the 2 lists are ‘trades’ and ‘bums’.

On the Trade list are: A. Kellaway, Pettifer, Hyde, Fiora, Gaspar, Chaffey, Tivendale, Ottens (with a square drawn around it and underlined 4 times), Rodan.

On the Bums list: Nichols, Marsh, Fletcher, Hilton, Weller, Morrison, Bumfield (spelt like that), Dragacevic (sorry draga), Fleming, Houlahan.

How times change. No real cutting insights. Apologies to AK, Pettifer, Hyde

Interestingly enough my brother and I do the same religiously once the season has finished and just before the season starts. I have a collection of napkins and pieces of papers from years gone by, we use it to look back at our decisions and we've always been correct. ;D

During the Danny Frawley days after a loss, we would grab a souvlaki from Lambs and sit down, grab a couple of napkins and again go for it and try to restructure the team for the next week, mind you we hardly won during that era, that's alot of napkins. :hihi
