Question for the old(er) timers

I've been wondering something for a long while. My first richmond jumper was a hand-me-down from my uncle, about 15 years ago. I think it was number 8, but I am not sure. It was either a single digit number, or number 13.

Can anyone tell me which player would have worn this. I would say that it was early to mid eighties.

Don't consider myself an oldie because I was around in the 80's...ha... but guernsey 13 would have been worn by Phil Egan from memory. Of course Michael Roach wore number 8 as did most tiger supporters on the back of their dufflecoats.

Ahhh Disco Roach the mighty number 8. Now those were the days when we had a key forward who could lead, Take spectacular marks and when he lined up for goal you were almost certain it was going to go through!

Now that famous number 8 is being totally disgraced by the current wearer! Kayne It's time to hand that Jumper to someone who has the same commitment and skill that Roachy was famous for!

Hey I'm 29 and I remember Roach and Egan - Does that make me old!! (still have my hair, no greys nor a beer gut. Give it a couple of years though ;D)

I'll always remember watching Roach try and reach the 600 goal milestone. It took forever. Oneday, I remember, yep this is it, only 30 meters out, straight in front and as he walked in ..... bang he pulled the old hamstring.

3 weeks later I was still waiting.

Heh, no not at all. ;)

Thanks for that everyone, would have been Roach for sure.

Aah Roach and Phil Egan !!
Just about every one had an 8 on their back then .
That mark by Roach against Hawthorn -nothing will beat it.

And didn't Emmet Dunne wear no 5 during the early 80's, whilst *smile* Clay made the No. 8 famous at Tigerland in the late 60's early 70's

5. Dunne
6. David Palm
7. Malthouse
8. Roach
11. Stephen Mount?
13. Phil Egan
16. Bryan Wood
19. Greg Strachan
20. Jim Jess
22. Barry Rowlings
29. KB

MT - Steven Mount wore Number 6 then David Palm wore it after him. 11 was worn by Bruce Monteath (Premiership skipper).

Another quiz - Who wore number 5 after Emmett Dunne?

The Boss

Was it John Annear - I know he wore number 5

The Boss, sorry I can't remember until you tell me. I'm a gettin' a bit ol sonny boy.

Another question for us oldies though.

What number did Merv Keane wear, was it no 18 or 24? Or did Graeme Landy wear no 24??

I remember Alan Edwards wore no 17 and going back a bit further Balmie wore the terrorising no 21. Also Bruce Tempany wore no 14. Pity Fiora doesn't do the same justice to that number.

Another curly one, what number did Peter Welsh wear and Big Al Martello (15?) ???

Merve Keane = 18
Graeme Landy = 34
Peter Welsh = 31
Al Martello = 15

Gee I like this game ;)

Well done KL, he was one of the better recruits we got from Collingwood.
Gee we picked up some duds from them. They got Cloke, Raines and Taylor we get players like Craig Stewart and Peter McCormack (when they were both over the hill), Phillip Walsh, Noel Lovell and Wally Lovett. Gee, I wonder who won that player war!!!
And then in the early 90s we go back for more duds - John Mrakov, Hrysoulakis, Andrew Tarpey.
Then we go back again for Aaron James and Clinton King!!! No more Collingwood duds please!!!

Here are some more Tiger greats (and not so greats) from early 80s with their numbers:

9 - Shane Williams
17 - Maurice Rioli then wore 27 sfter coming back from Sydney)
23- Trevor Poole (a better player then Football manager)
24 - Neil Peart
25 - Ian Sartori
27 - Semmens
28 - Dennis Collins
35 - Noel Mugavin
36 - Ian Scrimshaw
37 - Dan Foley
38- Phillip Bottams
40 - Darryl vernon
41 - Michael Rolfe

Gee no wonder we were so poor in the 80s theer aren't too many stars in that list (apart from maurice)
