Two arms, two legs n one head. I know there's some variation in ability n capacity for all the young draftees, but pick one being worth two pick eights just seems skewed out of proportion.

So does trading off a couple of excess fringe players for a bunch picks around the thirties n forties so that you can basically buy a top ten pick for garbage.

More of the intellectual diarrhoea from AFL corporate suits desperately trying to justify their existence.
What was ever wrong with trading a like for like? You want an early pick, you need to trade quality. Now you just sell garbage to accumulate points n use them to syphon cream.

Yep.
Massive overdose of all the best young talent at the draft to set them up. Then they get a couple of years to assess n develop the best kids while offering up the leftovers that were quality juniors but aren't quite matching their best for plenty of bonus points to clubs desperate for a talent injection. Extra points value then gets cobbled together for their cheap n discounted academy players who they've already done development work on.

There are to many people working at the AFL so they need something to do.

Why can't they leave the draft as it was so it can't be manipulated. When they brought in the extra first round if you didn't win 4 or more games created the tanking problem - now the points system is being manipulated. The AFL create most of their own problems in my view.

That's the problem. Too many shiny arses at afl hq. Bring in a rule without too much thought to fix a problem they created in the first place. Then need working parties to fix it. Then make changes, that create another problem to fix. And on it goes. It becomes a sub industry in itself. I wonder how many $millions go down the gurgler. They must base their structure on government departments. Bureaucrats and waste 101.

There was an article, I think in the Hun earlier this year, that commented on the massive growth in shiny armani suits at AFL corporate over the last ten / fifteen years or so and the mega bucks it now costs to run AFL inc. More bloated n bureaucratic than the Govt n our pubic service these days.

The system is what it is we need to use it to the maximum.
Trade out some of our mid tier for second and third rounders. Then convert these by dealing with the academy clubs to get first round pick(s).
Don't judge the system understand it and use it
