Magentas
Bloods
Tricolours
Butchers
Fuchsias
Pivotonians
Carringbush
Mustard Pots
Red Legs

Hawks were also known as the mayflowers
collingwood are now known as the eddies ;D
werent we also the yellow and black angels??
Footscray were the imperials, then tri-colours

Fuchsias were Melb - later Redlegs cos of socks later Demons in an effort to make them more macho - hence Dees.

Were Magentas also Melb?

S. Melb - Blood & Bandages, Blood-stained Angels, Bloods

Footscray - Scraggers also Mayblooms

Mayblooms was name given because they would have won the flag if GF played in May

Fitzroy - Gorillas

N. Melb - Shinboners (ouch!)

Essendon - Dons before they became Bombers

Hawthorn - Mustard pots

Carringbush - Pies

Geelong - Pivotonians

Wasps - for the early Richmond team

Most got most answers right. But not all, so...

Wasps (Richmond - yeah only fleeting reference, but had to include us in the list!)

Mayblooms (Hawthorn coz of their jumpers)

Same olds (Essendon)

Gorillas (Fitzroy)

Magentas (Port coz of their colours.ok different league, but a couple still got it!)

Bloods (South - colours)

Tricolours (Footscray)

Butchers (Carlton - coz their uniform used to look like butchers outfits of the time - like the heritage jumpers)

Fuchsias (Melbourne - colours)

Pivotonians (Geelong - coz they were close to the Pivot cement plant - Geelong being an industry/trade "pivot")

Carringbush (Collingwood - coz of the underworld reference in the book Power Without Glory)

Mustard Pots (Hawthorn reversed their colors to yellow with a brown V for about a season and were still officially Mayblooms, but commonly known as this. They must have looked shocking)

Red Legs (Melbourne unofficial reference - obvious reason)

Shinboners (North - coz most of their players worked in the saughter yards - reputation for rough play then developed from this nickname.)

Men From The Land of Boulders (Footscray reference coz of all the rocks out west)

TRIVIA: Former tiger premirship coach Frank "Checker" Hughes was responsible for changing Melbourne from the Fuchsias to the Demons when he started coaching them. Apparently at a training session, in his disgust at the players efforts told them stop playing like flowers and to play like demons (maybe OUR current squad could heed this advice!)
