Just heard AFL have given permission for all Richmond players to wear the number 17 on the front of their jumpers.

i love the idea about the no. 17 on the front of the jumpers.

i know this year at the jack dyer day in march that there wont be anyone wearing the no. 17 this year because its such a special number...anyone know if this will be the case forever?

Apparently Cogs' heritage jumper fecthed around $2650 on ebay, so that was something the club did right, but agree they should have been generally availble to the public. I though Nike would have jumped at this sort of marketing opportunity as well as the club, or maybe the were worried that such an insipid performance would result in an abundance of unsold jumpers.

The Club is unsure of what to do with number 17. It was reported today that a couple of options might be
1/ Retire the number
2/ Make it the number worn by the club captain
3/ Only give it to player who showed qualities similar to Captain Blood - the player mentioned is Cogs.

Whatever they do as long as it's not given to someone like Paul Hudson like it was last year.

Hope they don't retire it. I love seeing the great old numbers running around out there - it always seems like some part of the greats that wore it are out there too... Dyer ... Richardson ... Rioli ... Broderick ... pretty good bloodlines. Retiring it is like sending it off to a nursing home.

Yeah I agree, but whoever gave HUDSON the opportunity to wear such a great number should be hung drawn and quartered and I would rather see it retired than given to someone like HUDSON was everything Jack DYER wasn't. A Soft fringe dweller.

in good old danny speak
i would have thought it would be a good way to entice the no.17 from the bullies to tigah-land...i would have thought

On the subject of this famous number, what do the members of PRE think about making it the captain's number or awarding it to the Best & Fairest each year?
