Wonder how many, if any, remember the night games at South Melbourne. They were held in the 60's and boy, was it cold on those nights. My neighbour was a committee man for the South Melb. cricket club--in fact he played for them--and I would tootle along with him, which meant getting into the members. Not that meant much, as the conditions were pretty raw in those days.

We used to stand in front of the score board and freeze our butts off. I may stand corrected, but I think this was the forerunner of night games. Not sure if they just continued on from there or if there was a break.

Maybe there a couple of oldies here that may throw more light on those games.

I grew up in Moray st near the south melb ground and sold footy records at the ground. In the late 60's and early 70's come finals time I would hang all my tigers stuff that I owned-jumper, socks "weg" posters etc in our front window much to the sneering of the locals.(fortunately we never got a rock thrown at us).I remember those night games and yes they were freezing-guess that is why I live in Darwin ;D

i remember going to games there in the early 70s ...ill never forget those cold nights and how bad the ground was...

Ah' memories.. as a youngin' lived in Dorcas street, used to watch the Bloods train at the Lake Oval, even had a kick with some of the players [ including the great Bobby Skilton alias the Chimp ]. Night games were sensational & the Tiges played quite a few so I was rapt.

Only went to lakeside a couple of times

But still have the scar from my split lip parting my moustache

Ah yes those were the days ;D

I never went - my recollection were that they were games for those that didnt make the finals. They were on the radio and I remember listening each week. had no idea what was happening at the time....
