What do others think of this. I guess some will applaud it, whilst others will say it's yet another example of the 'Nanny State'.

For mine i think it's common sense and a step forward.

All for it. Parents are neglectful and very selfish if they put their own habits ahead of their kids' health by subjecting them to years of passive smoking.

I'm for it - no different to trains, buses, pubs etc. Happy for people to smoke as long as they don't affect others....

Enforcement will be another issue....

I wish i had a dollar for every time i have seen someone blabbing on their mobile phone whilst driving. Shockers!

Agreed, and cops should be pulling them up more.

I agree with this, not only for the kids but also driver safety. How can you safely drive when you are focused on your ash dropping on your lap when you are flying around a round-about?

more nanny state laws.

parents that drive thru the city link tunnels with their kids in their cars should also be banned.the amount of toxins and heavy metals in there are massive.i feel for fat people after smokers are "cured".i can see the day coming fast when it will be socially acceptable to villify fatties the way everyone thinks its their right to tell smokers their personal views..and yes i smoke......

So it's ok by you, SS, to puff away in the car with the windows down and with the little SS Tones in the back?

The tunnels would be better if the fans were operating at their proper capacities. They are designed so you should not be seeing any smog in the tunnel in normal circumstances. Funny I cannot recall ever not seeing smog in that tunnel. Citylink wouldn't be running the exhaust at a lower rate to save on their power bill would they??

All for it. The amount of money spent keeping smokers alive is a real drag (pun intended) on government budgets and insurance premiums.

i'm all for a flat out ban on cancer sticks.

Because prohibition has been so effective with other substances?

I understand the sentiment, but in reality would cause far more problems than it would solve.

Big difference. A person's weight doesn't inflict life-threatening disease on other people like smoking does.

The same argument could be made for meat,or foods high in cholesterol. It's always easier to be against something and call for its ban that one is not involved in themselves.

Only issue is you cannot get cancer sitting next to someone eating a steak.

I'd be much happier for the kiddies in the car if the smoker was woofin down a burger (as long as they weren't driving at the time)

Epitaph,

50 fags a day
Didn't take their toll
I was finally struck down
By passive cholesterol.
