Does anyone know what ever happened to former Doggy/Tiger Justine Charles after being caught with using steriods to quicken his knee injury?
Where is he now?

Re: Justin Charles

Don't know what happened with that URL I just gave you as that is my entry on the subject but if you scroll down 2 or 3 posts there is a reply by bigwow and then one from Hanno - that's the one I thought I was giving you.

Re: Justin Charles

He played for West Footscray in the FDFL.

Justin had major troubles with his knees and I think it was two years ago retired.

Re: Justin Charles

I can. He is sorry he did it. Thats good enough for me. Injuries robbed this guy of a great career. He just wanted to get back to playing, went one step too far.

Re: Justin Charles

I forgive him.
I met the bloke a few times and said hello-couldn't meet a nicer bloke and he loved Richmond with a passion.

Re: Justin Charles

He's forgiven in my book. His 95-96ish seasons were sensational. We missed him when the injuries took their toll.

Re: Justin Charles

I'd forgotten about Justin finishing 4th in the Brownlow until Benny Gale mentioned it on his doco.
It's a pity he was cut down by injury because Justin could have been anything.
Passion personified.

Re: Justin Charles

yeah i liked justin charles. he may be remembered for the wrong reasons but hes not the only one to ever do it just the unlucky one to get caught....

Re: Justin Charles

I honestly believe he wasn't the first to use the roys & purely used them to repair damage to his body to speed up his return to play. Not that he was using them to improve his performace on the field. Still no excuse as he knew it was a banned substance!

What he did was dumb, got the wrong advise & paid the price. He loved the club and was a fantastic player.

IMO the club saw him as a major embarassment & can not help remember his last games in the 1st & the especially the 2nds. He would be free screaming for the ball in the forward line (in the 2's) but no-one would pass to him. It was so obvious that he wasn't even being manned in the end !!!

This is my observation of his last days & I am spewing we lost such a talented person that way.

Re: Justin Charles

I knew JC well, whilst all this drug stuff was going on,and believe me he took it very very hard. He loved the Tigers, and had a real passion for the Club which I think many of our current list lack.
One day he said, mate we went out last night as a group to a small reataurant, and I sat there thinking how lucky I was to be a small part of the RFC,I dont know why I did this but I found myself standing up at the table, put my hand on my heart and sang the Tiger theme song......right through, then with a tear in my eye,sat down again......mate I love this Club...
I challenge anyone to tell me that he was not one of the most passionatre players we've ever had.....yes,he did the wrong thing, but let he who is without sin, cast the first stone....
He is a successful Plumber with his fathers Co. the last I heared.....
A great guy.
Go Tigers..

Re: Justin Charles

Orpflog, I concur with your settiments, he loved the club. You can tell when he trained so hard & to succeed. His passion was unquestionable and when he ran out to play he gave 100%.

Seriously can anyone remember the comeback game when he marked & goaled. The roar is still fixed in my memory.

I still have his sginature in my book with pride. Yep made an error, but you can see even when he has made subsquent apperances about drugs, I am pretty sure he still wears some gear to show he was part of the RFC.

Deos anyone know if he has been welcomed back to the club for any functions?

Re: Justin Charles

Yeah Al,I remember that goal....Punt Rd end,the Geelong players were dead set giving it to him, probably cheap shots about his misdemeanour......

I dont mind admitting I had a tear in my eye as he slotted it thru and I heared the ROAR.......

Im away at present o/s,but when I get back in Dec,Im gonna touch base with him again, and I'll let you all knoiw where he stands and what he's doing.....

A great bloke....

Re: Justin Charles

I must correct myself. It was Justins hip that gave him problems, not his knees as I previously stated.

While Justin did something stupid, he took the steriods in order to recover from his hip injury quicker. He was a passionate player and gave his heart to the club.

Everyone make mistakes in life, poor decisions and bad advice effects us all.

We must remember the great service Justin gave to the club and the great player he was.

Re: Justin Charles

I forgave him. You had to love his passion for the game. Shame that his career had to end the way it did.

Re: Justin Charles

I see Justin once or twice a year,he is still involved with his other sporting passion,Baseball,he coaches the Port Melbourne club,he doesnt appear to move too freely these days, carries a limp even when walking.

Re: Justin Charles

I had thought this hip injury was abit of a smoke screen just to delist him after what he had done. So it was true...

His whole thought pattern was to repair his body rather than improve his performance on the field due to the continual breakdown on the field. (too fit). He (as noted earlier) took the wrong advise on how to repair the body quicker, using a banned substance.

He should have known better. No excuses. But I have forgiven him.

Re: Justin Charles

justin made some silly choices and paid the price for it...his passion was great and ive forgivin him...its a pity hell always be remembered for his mistakes....
