I've just pulled together the below. Let me know your thoughts if you think I have graded the games wrong, but the stats tell the same story that the eyes tell.

We are essentially coming up against 2 types of gameplan. The trust themselves gameplan and the suffocate the Tiges gameplan. The stats are very evident of that.

The games where teams are obviously flooding us, we have won every inside 50 count and with an average of over +20. Last 2 weeks have been +33. These games have also resulted in very low scores per I50 for obvious reasons, but also that we have yet to combat this gameplan.

The other sides particularly those against better teams, we have won 2 and lost 3 (I expect this to become a 6 on Thursday night, hopefully we can level the ledger) and there is no real trend for the wins / losses, the 3 we lost were for 3 different reasons, Saints exposed us defensively with their speed, GWS we kicked ourselves out of it, and Port we lost the midfield battle and in the end weight of numbers beat us.

I don't think any of the last 4 teams will flood (even Freo as it looks like Longmuir actually wants to teach them how to play footy, potentially Adelaide but we will be too good for them anyway) and therefore I expect our scoring efficiency to be much better.

We do need to find another way around the flood, but it may not impact us again this season.

There’s definitely a trend that the mid-table teams are employing the defensive tactic of crowding our forward 50. This is dragging us down to their level, playing ugly footy that in some ways has been forced upon us.

Hopefully we retain the trust in our system so that we can match the good sides who will in turn be trusting their system, starting with West Coast!

is flooding Ross Lyons legacy to the modern game ?
not accusing, genuinely asking ...

Could be, last nights game reminded me of a game a few years ago at the G when we got spanked by the Frockers under Ross L. It was like watching super fit U12’s, seagulls all chasing the chip and the Frockers sat outside the ‘bubble’ and creamed is with cheapies out the back all day. That’s what if appeared like on TV last night. Hard to tell 100% when not at the game but every time we last that contest on the outside of the maypole the Druggies ran riot onto cheap goals.

Got a vague memory it was Roos at the Swans? certainly liked to choke up the ball movement and win at stoppages.
