The future seem a bit bleak at the moment in terms of young talent coming through. To get us into a period of dominance we needed a Dusty, a Cotch (2xBrownlow medallists) plus a heap of other players who were (or became) either stellar performers or who were great role players.
Are there any younger players on our list who people think just might be diamonds in the rough? I don’t see enough VFL to know….but it seems to me like there just aren’t any that have that kind of very raw potential. I hope I’m wrong - but it’s very worrying- especially with the new Tassie team coming on board.

I think old mother Hubbard has raided that cupboard 67…it’s seems bare.

I guess my main query was whether there was anything at all to suggest any of the as yet untried kids might amount to something special. eg. , Banks, Brown, Green, Bauer? As bad as things were in 2014-15 we knew we had Cotch, Dusty, Jack et al - all in their prime - best footy ahead of them. Aside from Bolton, we can’t say that about anyone atm.

If Miller is in the side, yes. He is useless. I don't buy the structure argument, if he was making the odd contest fair enough, but he's giving us nothing, no physical presence, no possessions, no execution, nothing. I reckon Craig Ednie would be better for structure myself.

Things looked pretty bleak in 2016
Disagree… the opinion was we under performed because the list actually looked ok and there was talent emerging… this doesn’t have a 16 vibe at all

Not sure about that. Some of our brightest, most considered posters were still calling for a complete rebuild as late as during the 2017 season.

After losing 3 Grand Finals in a row I reckon 1929 looked pretty grim, took 3 years and another GF loss in 1931 to get back to the top.

If we want to mine history we can certainly find plenty to be depressed about, but while I don't think we can bounce back like we did after 2016, I don't think the cupboard is bare. A bit light on as some of the more high quality produce reaches its use by date, but there's some decent stuff still there and we can re-stock, already started with Tarranto and Hopper, plus some potential from that draft haul of 5 in 2021.

Need to keep stocking up and work out where I reckon we have dropped off a little in player development. Player development is a very competitive part of the game and you only have to be very slightly off to become uncompetitive.

Personally David I was pretty bullish in 1929 but each to their own.

I thought it was pretty damned depressing, especially since we would have won one of those if not for the challenge system back then.

We didn't pay Horrie Edmonds enough respect in the '29 Grand Final and it was always going to come back to bite us. I said that on the day and I'll say it again now.

I miss the days of football in the early 1900’s where you doth your cap to the opposition if they took a clean mark.

Not enough dothing now days.
