Can the powers at be at PRE please look to the future and develop an iPhone app or the very least a more smart phone friendly site.

Within the next 5 years it is anticipated that 80% of Internet users primary form of access will be the smart phone.

I love the site don't get me wrong but it's hard to keep stretching the screen in our crowded peak hour trains.

Surely our database suggests we have enough users to invest in the future!

I don't know the first thing about that sorry Can. If it's not in my Dummies manual I probably can't do it. Wouldn't have a clue who to ask. Wouldn't have a clue about costs. Not sure how it would be an investment in the future, our increased hosting costs coming up is a big enough investment for me at the moment.

If 80% of users will be from a smart phone maybe it's just a sign of the times and PRE has run it's race. Dunno.

I'm happy if you, or anyone else, would like to look into it for us.

l use an ipad at work for surfing the net while using my mobile for wifi.ipad is great for this site and l think my phone internet speed is better when used through the ipad

It would probably cost somewhere between $1000-$4000 to get a PRE app developed.

It would certainly be a worthwhile investment IMO, moving with the times and all that.

The cost would be recovered pretty quickly if you charged say $0.99 for it, or you could make it free and place a few ads in it.

It would cost no where near that sum of money to provide a smartphone skin/app.

It costs about that for apps built from the ground up, in my experience anyway

No need to build an app from the ground up when there are off the shelf solutions readily available and being used. Tapatalk, the most common one, is at no charge to forum owners if they are happy with the stock one but can pay additional to have it rebranded.

Great stuff. That's very cool to know Balooga.

That will do it.

mate it would be worthwhile asking how much it would cost to rebrand to PRE colors!

It's $799. I'm not willing to, and couldn't justify, paying that. We're about to move hosts that will result in substantially increased costs to run this site. If people wanted to donate enough to cover the $799 cost I'd be willing to do it. I can't really see that happening and wouldn't expect it to though.

Nope, not really worth it as the users still need to pay Tapatalk the money for the app. The forum owner just gets the forum, brand and custom icon for it plus the ability to have their own Google Ads running through it but need to form out USD$800 for the honour.

The premium version, USD$3.5k, gives you more control (colours etc) but still not worth it.

Rebranding is more for commercial enterprises.
