The new coach announcement is imminent. My hope is that whether it be Hinkley or Hardwick that they want the job because they really want to coach the Tigers, read Richmond, to success, not because they will start earning big money as a coach.

Surely a coach has to have a burning desire to coach a certain team, and not "doing the job," just for the money.

That is my fervent hope. We desperately need a dedicated coach.

I hope whoever gets the gig has a realistic view of the state of the list. I hope they go through not just the playing list but the coaching/support staff list and turn that over as well.

I hope the club, board and admin. realise this as well. If not we're doomed to constant failure. Actually I don't care.

Good call. We dont need another Walla$$e

I hope the new coach has a burning need to write himself into the AFL History book as a multi-premiership coach of the RFC.

No other requests or needs or desires will be considered by the coach.

And above all - I hope he succeeds in this burning need............

Neither are high profiles with egos (such as Buckley, Wallace, Voss etc..) so we should be fine.

They may not have the profiles, but they need to have the ego. To quote that Australian rocking classic "Ego is not a dirty word". What you may be referring to in regard Buckley et all is Narcissism, where the complete focus is on self. Any person who is successful, particularly in the hotbed of AFL Coaching must has a strong ego to get out of bed each morning. I do agree with your sentiment.

RIP Shirl.

an interesting topic...I find it interesting that everytime a coaching gig comes up that anyone who's anyone in the assistant coach or recently moved on coach stakes is touted as the next big thing.....Surely they cant all want to coach that bad that they'll take on any senior role that comes along ?....theres something a bit hollow about that ...

Yes you do Velo that's why you posted, we all care in our own individual ways.

Yes, because a coach like Voss would be a disaster. ::)

Who needs a team drilled to go in hard at the contest?

What's your point?

Let's not go overboard. I want to see us make regular finals. Then we can worry about premierships.

All coaches have egos, just most hear the word ego with a negative conotation which is not neccesarily the case.

Agree wtih your sentiment but I think the truth lies in between. You definitely don't want a coach who is motivated by money or arrogance without substance. However most coaches I suspect are more excited about the opportunity than the club itself. The challenge of moulding a culture and group of people into a highly achieving team. The brotherhood and comradrie comes from the shared values and hard work put in, not by good intentioned passion.

Many people joked in his first year (I think Caroline Wilson even wrote a infamous article that would be one of many haunting her right now) about how Lyon didn't seem to have fallen in love with the Saints or embraced them fully yet.

Look at them now. ::)

I just want to know who the *smile* coach is so I can fantasize about what might be over the next few years...

Absolutely nothing else Tiger related worth thinking about

It's highly unlikely that the next coach will be the one that coaches Richmond to a flag, it'll be his successor or possibly even the one after that. That is the simple reality of how long it will take. The new coach should not be judged on wins or losses, but on how the team and the players improve and move together as a team towards the ultimate goal of a flag.

Disagree - no matter who the coach is between Hardwick and Hinkley he must - I repeat must - from day 1 be coaching to achieve Premiership success. It may take 2 to 3 to 5 to 7 years to get that premiership - but it has start from day 1.

For history shows this is the only way to achieve a premiership...............

As a great leader of China once said "All great journeys start with the first step!"

I just hope to god we get it right, and THEY get it right.

I honestly think there's some potential, we need to add to it, but there is some. It's just what we do with it that is important.
