Boys and girls I haven't taken our close loss very well. At times this weekend I've felt really low. I'm lucky enough to have an understanding and supportive family around me. If anyone else is doing it tough reach out. It doesn't take much to knock you off your perch. Don't do what I do and keep analysing the ARC footage. What's everyone else doing to keep their minds occupied?

I think about trade, draft and next year.

We’re building again and that fills me with hope.

I decided that the AFL season is over for me. Only Fremantle is acceptable to win it for me but can't see a blue moon on the calendar. No more news, AFL site, Sen, fox footy even a glance. I will check in on Puntroad to get trade updates etc but now my focus is family, leisure and business. Stay safe and sane tiger family!

Good thread, @snags

I heard Sonja Hood, the new-ish president of North Melbourne, on the radio a few weeks ago and she said something interesting. It was the day after Clarkson was appointed and she was asked about how a club like North keeps supporters keen and optimistic when winning so few games. And she said the secret was 'hope'. She said it was important when things weren't going well that there is always a sense of hope.

These past few days, I've been focusing on Sonsie's incredible touch kicks on both sides of the body. Gibcus' spring-heeled jumping and powerful spoils. MRJ's unbelievable commitment to pressure and turnovers (that goal when he broke Coleman's ankle was outrageous!). Miller's remarkable growth as a potential ruck and power forward. Ross's increased belief in himself and his two-way running. Cumberland's ridiculous self belief and accurate goal kicking.

And now we could be about to jag a GWS gun to buttress our midfield. Will Rutten come back and rewire our backline? Can the fitness staff get Grimes and Prestia going for 20+ games next season?

We’re building again and that fills me with hope.

A couple of other quick thoughts.

I'm at peace with our season. It actually wasn't lost on Thursday night; it was lost against North, Gold Coast, Sydney, etc. I just didn't think it was going to be our year. Even if we'd won, we would have played Melbourne—the one side that really owned us this year.

Finally, the Bears played out of their skins to beat us. With the week they had, it was a truly impressive effort. We would have beaten most teams based on what we dished up on Thursday. But Brisbane was resilient and indefatigable. We put up a bloody good show at a hostile venue and got pipped at the post. No shame in that!

We were not going to contend for the flag, would most likely go out next week. The manner of of the way the season went was somewhat depressing, lost too many games we should have won, add in some clusterfucks by the AFL, so not a great year. We could have done better, that's the pity.

But, I bumped into an Essendon supporter friend about half an hour ago, he commented on the Richmond loss, I replied that at least I'm not an Essendon supporter. that always helps

Depressed..its the alarming brain fart moments of madness. We lost through sheer stupidity so many times this year. But the last few minutes of thursday night saw the pinnicle of our mindless stuff ups...Lynch just had to step to his left and kick a simple left foot snap...what on earth went through his brain to think a mile high banana kivk from 5 feet out was a better option ?
Then the final lions goal.5 tigers all flying to kill it..all mess it up..no one..no one at all..not one of them goal side at the fall of the ball.Utter madness.Youd think this scene would of been trained into them over and over and over after all the stuff up losses this year.No leadership from nank right there..no communication...so yeH...its the way we threw it away and learnt nothing about how to play out a close game..
Oh well..sonsie ross mj cumberland miller gibcuss rioli and taranto gives us something to look foward to ...

When you think about it from a macro perspective there are 18 and probably soon to be 19 teams. We should be expecting to be disappointed for two decades in a row on average. Following a sport team just has that baked in. 3 in 4 years is just crazy.

This one hurts a lot because we had enough to get the job done this year if the cookies crumbled the right way…. And once the opportunity is gone it is gone. It’s final. I’m sure Adelaide port and Geelong players and fans have similar vibes about 17 19 and 20. For St kilda fans it would just be horrible. So close and now so far.

I guess what I’m saying is that I manage my mental health by thinking about the stats. Very nerdy. But then also focus on other things like TOO.

This is a great thread snags. Well done and thanks mate.

I was shitty after the game big time and havent posted at all in the Game Day, ARC, player and umpiring threads.
But Father's Day came and went - and family is No1 - so gives perspective pretty easily. And we won 3 flags in 5 years with champion players that have given such joy. My mates are Saints supporters think about that.

Gratitude is a big thing for me.

With the injuries and a few oddities (cant for the life of me work out the free kick discrepancy in the Adelaide game, was the biggest joke ever), we face up as a club to play. Proud of the club. Proud of Peggy and the Board. Led well from the top.

How to cope moving forward. Pretty easy I reckon - control the controllables as the boys and Dimma say. Ben Crowe mindset saying. Game has been and gone.

I know what annoys me about the club - posted ad nauseaum. Control what we can, do not focus on what we cant control. We cant control the idiots in the media or the morons at the AFL.

I have faith/hope the club will focus - as it has been these last few years - on what it can control: getting better each year, making better decisions, continuing to recruit good people (staff and players alike), building an improved footy program, etc. For me, I focus on how great life can be. How grateful I am for family and friends. And all the flags we have won.

Took a few days to get over it, but found solace in the current dynasty team being rolled and the pies losing (downside is geelong, but it ain’t over til it's over!)
Didn't check into PRE until Saturday. ... (some of the stuff people write is surely not good for anyone's mental health... including their own! )
Like many others I feel it's been a season of missed opportunity. ... but the time of would've, could've, should've is finished for me and I hope there is a sort of Last Dance focus for Cotch, Jack and even Dustin, as we look forward to next season.

(Keeping in mind that the Next Dance is not too far away!)
