He admires battlers. He likes a P-76 over a Ferarri.
In 1999 when he took over, we had too many players who couldn't kick. This has not been remedied.
The problem is, battlers remind Danny of himself - he admires their courage, their ability to make it against the odds, and forgives them when they cost the team with constant mistakes.
Remember the 2001 semi final? All Danny could go on about was his St Kilda mate Sziller. He played a good game but as an aquisition for the club, hurt us with constant mistakes, turnovers and missed shots at goal for two years.
Look at the other players he brought to the club: King (can't kick), Fleming (can't kick), Nicholls (can't kick, slow and fat), Hudson (past it), Houlihan (can kick, can't win a footy), Pettifer (can't hit a target), Vardy (can't do anything much). All battlers.
Then there's D. Kellaway, Rogers, Hilton, Biddiscome, Holland, Hall, Gaspar. All struggle to hit targets. All battlers.
Some of these players I admire, but you never will see a premiership team of battlers, and it's criminal that the club hasn't actively tried to weed them out, rather than bring more in (Fleming, Nicholls!!).
The other side of this is that Frawley doesn't know how to treat a Ferarri.
That's why Ottens gets thrown around the park like a rag-doll, Krakouer gets splinters on the bench, and that most of our better players seem unsettled, played out of position and inhibited.
Apologies for the kindergarten psychology, it's just the way I see it.
