I have been fortunate enough most seasons to see most of the games live. The few times I've had to watch on tv (interstate games), I've had the misfortune to have to watch on foxfooty. The game tonight was frustrating enough to watch without having to put up with the 3 stooges that the station passes off as commentators.
I have no problem when they point out mistakes made etc, that's their job. I do have a problem when they carry on about incidents that happened in the previous quarter or even 2 quarters ago, while gloosing over freo mistakes and inadequacies!
Example 1. In the first quarter, in the middle, Richo went after the guy with the ball, leaving parker by himself. When parker received the handball, Richo made what could be seen as a halfhearted attempt to chase parker. The commentators went on about this for a quarter and a half!! Never mind that parker was 20-30 metres away when he got the handball!
Example 2. They went on about Richo having kicked 2.3 (admittedly a couple of easy shots missed) for most of the game, pointed out that Deledio had kicked 1.3. Only mentioned ONCE that medhurst had kicked 0.3, and that was AFTER he kicked one out on the full. And ignoring the fact headland also kicked 1.3.
They kept going on about Richmond missing shots, neglecting the fact that freo kicked as many behinds, and at that stage were only 2 goals ahead.
As I said, I don't mind them pointing mistakes and efforts out, but stop harping on about 1 team in particular while ignoring the fact the other team was just as bad!
I know peter wilson is from wa, I don't think he's forgiven Richmond for drafting him.I'm not sure whether tim goosage is from wa, but from the game it sounded like he was. matthew campbell, well he's just poor whichever game he covers!
The highlight in the commentating for me was near the end when one of them said that for the first time in freo's history, they will have won 5 on the trot, and when they play the weagles they'll be going for 6 wins in a row, which they've never done before! Hello, I would have thought that was obvious if this is the first time they've won 5 in row!!!!!!!
I lost track of the number of times they went on about incidents that happened off the ball, behind the play, only for the cameras to zoom in on the bench or players getting rubbed down. The amount of times you lost track of play because the cameras stayed on the player who just kicked the ball for 5 seconds too long was staggering!! Would have been better off listening to the radio. I would have SEEN just as much!
That's off my chest now . Anybody else feel the same way or am I venting my frustrations out in the wrong direction
