Merry Christmas all. I was looking for a place to post this and I couldn't find anything relevant post 2007, so here it is. It is a Christmas song from Tim Minchin. I reckon it is a ripper in that it captures a fair about what I feel about Christmas and family and Aus. I will be away for the next couple of years and I can see myself getting a bit melancholy and listening to this one. Feel free to tell me what you think about this song, or about the songs that you think about, or like, or dislike at this time of year.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

Thanks for sharing that mate. I thoroughly enjoyed it. For me, it's the time to spend with your family and appreciate what you have. Not the commercialisation and consumerism that it has become. Just keep it simple.

I still like "Little drummer boy"
ps I like a small present or too

Good luck in your travels, stay safe.

Cheers mate.

ppsThe definitive "Little Drummer Boy" is the Bing Crosby/David Bowie version IMO.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

Only two Aussie Xmas songs - "How to make gravy" by Paul Kelly and "Hey Santa Claus you *smile*" by Kevin Bloody Wilson.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

6 white boomers by Rolf Harris, its about santa having to switch from reindeer to roos for the Aussie run. Good'n for the kids

Not aussie, but Some good christmas songs:

Merry Christmas baby by Lou Rawls, swingin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_1fARlEDGLc

One of my favourites, Freddie McGregor reggae christmas song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9m_MHzmlYV0

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

Yeah that TM song is absolutely brilliant. Touching while taking a few very well aimed pot shots at Christianity. One of my all time favourites.

Well now you're onto something. Fairytale is the best Christmas song of all time in my opinion. With Kirsty Macoll R.I.P. Who'd have thought Shane McGowan would out live anyone? He's like a living science experiment that bloke. He is embalming himself from the inside out.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

Some favourites already posted. Pogues and Paul Kelly are tops

I love Jackson Browne and The Rebel Jesus is one of my favourite Christmas songs. Sums it up for me.

I also have an annual listen to John Lennon. Love it.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

Whoops. Didn't notice the "Aussie" qualifier. I hope Played in Australia passes muster. It's a better option than me cranking out our Patsy Biscoe's Christmas Album... believe me.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

Its not aussie, but tigersnake has an album of regge christmas caroles sung by jamaican fellas titled 'Eirie Christmas'. It is pure gold and constitutes our christmas play list.

Re: Aussie Christmas Songs

John Williamson sums up our non-Christian family Christmases. He also started the "Yum yum pigs bum Christmas Pudding" saying here.

Though not Australian, I'm quite keen on the new Dropkick Murphys' Christmas song
