Over the years, many failed Key Position Forwards have turned their careers around when switched into a defensive role.
Around this time of the year I like to look through the lists and see which ones are coming out of contract and can be traded for or signed as Free Agents on the cheap with the goal to turn them into ready made KPD's.

Criteria: 192+cm
Mature Body (no project players here)
Preferably played over 30 games.
Showed a little up forward (not complete spuds) but enough that they might be handle a simpler defensive role.

2024 Candidates:
Elliot Himmelberg, 25yo, 200cm, 41 games
Jack Silvagni, 25yo, 194cm, 111 games
Josh Schache, 25yo, 201cm, 73 games

Special Mention:
Fischer McAsey, 22yo, 196cm, Games 10. 2019 Pick 6 who quit Adelaide in January. Did he return to Melbourne and refind his passion to play?

All well and good, we don't need KPD. We possibly have the best two future KPD's (Balta & Gibcus) already. We need 2 future and or starting KPF's desperately.

Yeah nah, don't think I'd touch any of those aforementioned. Maybe EH but only if they threw in Rachele.

EH might be worth a try for free given we are so light on , prob more hope than biggy

Not a fan personally, could do worse I guess. Perhaps signing him is the bait to get his brother over? We'd have to trade for him (signed until 2024), a third rounder should get it done.

Jeez Juffa I wouldn’t buy them from the $2 shop.

Schache!!!!!! Possibly the player with the least going for him given the most chances. Not an AFL footballer. Slow, weak in contest, poor football brain, no agility, no aggression. Wow. Shouldn’t be mentioned in any possible recruits list.

Miller more upside as a key defender than the lot of them. And he’s unlikely.

Can we add another quality to the list......

Aggression or competitiveness.
I think all footballers need a fair dose of this, but I want my big men to be pumping it like an East German pumped steroids.
If they aren't aggressive or ultra competitive big men, I think we pass. We have Miller, who has the right athletic traits, and some
great skills for a big man. But gotta wonder about his mongrel levels. We don't need more like this.

Love the theory

I think we were interested in Himmelberg in his draft year….reunite the brothers ?

I forgot this guy, simply not athletic enough for AFL. 10 underwhelming games at Adelaide I think it was. Delisted himself before he would have been inevitably cut.

We have Balta/Miller/Gibcus/Young/Biggie on our list as future KPD, not sure we need to look for another one unless he showed signs of being potential A grade.

Geez. Shack up n SOSSOS there's a couple of list cloggers that other clubs can have.

I don't mind the theory, but I reckon (ignoring quality) Silvagni is too short to be a KPD, maybe a Vlastuin type?
Schache is too soft.

Possibly the worst list of candidates ever assembled. I’m dead inside
