A nice enhancement to the site would be a notification system similar to the most successful social networking site in the world.
Have a thin bar across the top of the screen. Two styles of notifications:
1. Direct quotes.
Everytime you are quoted, you get a notification and you can click on it, taking you directly to the post for viewing.
2. Replies in a thread.
If you post in a thread, you get notifications for say the next 3-5 replies.
You could also have a drop down bar listing the previous threads you have viewed, so you can quickly move to older ones.
I know there is already a system in place for threads you are involved in, but this would be much faster and would allow quicker replies. It would also encourage personal messages to each other, since there could be a direct link always available, like in facebook.
