Last night closed the worst decade in living memory for RFC - a decade that dawned with what proved to be false hope and ended with a month of shambolic performances.

Decade  P  W  D  L    W%
--------------------------
1900's  36  12 0  24 33.3%
1910's 167  61 2 104 37.1%
2000's 223  85 3 135 38.8%
1950's 181  76 1 104 42.3%
1990's 221  93 1 127 42.3%
1980's 225 102 1 122 45.6%
1960's 189  93 3  93 50.0%
1920's 184 112 2  70 61.4%
1970's 237 147 3  87 62.7%
1940's 192 120 2  70 63.0%
1930's 194 133 2  59 69.1%

Never before has the club tolerated such extended failure with so little change at the top, essentially seeing out ten years under two coaches. Despite our attempts to project an image of stability, our performance deteriorated still further from the dark days of the 80's and 90's, yet we retained our hard-won reputation for eating our own.

Richmond is blessed with the most loyal and passionate supporter group of all, but who knows whether it can withstand another decade of despair? Hopefully the signs that we are getting it right off-field are pointers to a better future; it behoves everyone at the club to re-invigorate it and restore it to a position of respect and success that some of us vaguely remember and the rest have only read about.

another decade of failure will see the club struggle to attract young kids as fans / members .I started following the team as a young boy in 1972 as future success was inevitable , how are the young kids going to support a team which never plays finals or has a good win /loss ratio

Sad to say that we performed better on field when we nearly became extinct off field. Also sad to note that we performed better on field with detoriated lists during World War I and WWII.
Talk about a balls up. Sheesh!

Looks like our last flag will probably get some mention (anniversary type) in that it's 30 years ago from next year.

Hard to believe the 80s are 30 years ago now.

Fade to grey. ;D

We can only improve from the last 4 games.
Someone posted recently that we didn't need to hit rock bottom- too late we are there.
The positive is we can only go one way from now and that's UP.

mmmm agree forceful ....................... the older i get the better i most certainly was..

Since our first flag in 1920, the 50s had been our only premiership-less decade, and now we've chalked up two on the trot (90s and 00s). Not only that, the one we won in the 80s was in the very first year.

Depressing.

listening to bits of the replay on mmm last night and one of the commentators said the good thing for hardwick taking over now is they cannot
get any worse, the only way now is up :help

so what does the next decade hold? will the introduction of GC and WS result in another decade of lean pickings? does the introduction of GC and WS really spell doom and gloom for teams looking to rebuild? is there a way out of the situation we are in?

if we widen the recruiting net are there unearthed talents out there that could expedite our progress? it's obvious that we will not be able to rely solely on the draft in the next few years. we have to be the worst club in the league at developing young talent. all of a sudden we must now become the best at molding what available resources we have (minus the duds obviously). here's where our focus must lie during hardwick's initial contracted period.

are you sure.

year after year we say we cant get any worse. and yet somehowwe seem t be goin nowhere. the club is a mess. 2 finals appearances in the last 27 yeas.
as one poster previously said you would have thought, even by accident, that we would have got it right by now. we are bad, and are always bad, every year. same old richmond. what the hell do we do. fold the club, merge. looks like this club is never gonna turn it around.... :( :( :(

The club can turn it around they just need the Bottle to do whats needed properly and havent done whats needed properly and strongly for the past 10 years as all coaches have chased cameo finals appearances which in turn hurt the club more than they helped regarding the playing ranks.

Strip the list back mercillessly over next 18 mths 18-20 to go , Keep the board away from Hardwick and his men and let them rip and tear and re construct the *smile* weak culture.

More funds into footy development and recruiting.

NO MORE DUDS being re signed undeservedly ffs.

When we do win one it will be the greatest party punt road will have ever seen. I wouldnt miss it for the world
